Overview

The approach to Au Soleil sets the stage for an exotic French Creole villa with Mediterranean flair. Colorful mosaics embedded in whitewash walls hug the teak main gate further flanked by tall palms in oversized planters. Past the gate, the stone paved drive is edged with colorful tropical shrubs and palms. Arches, terracotta roofing, columns and ironwork define the entrance.

The view dazzles as you enter the home. The turquoise pool edged by tropical foliage draws your eye to the Caribbean Sea and brilliant blue sky. Within view are the island of Saba, Baie Lounge Beach and the luxury hotel La Samanna. At night, sunsets are simply brilliant.

Accommodation

The villa flows seamlessly from the interiors to the covered terraces and onto the spacious pool terrace. The open plan great room mixes Caribbean touches with French style. Arched windows, doors and ironwork add to the exotic attitude. Rattan, teak, painted and tiled furniture accent the local art and interesting accessories. Cream and blue tones connect the seating and dining area.

A large Provençal style kitchen, in beautiful wood cabinetry and marble tiles with high-end appliances, is a very elegant place to prepare a meal, whether by a professional or amateur chef. The main kitchen opens to the view and to a gorgeous blue tile Moroccan inspired covered outdoor kitchen and dining gazebo. It is a stunning place to cook and dine al-fresco. The gazebo also houses additional living room seating overlooking the gardens and ocean view.

Three bedrooms are in the main villa; two off the upper terrace and one at garden level. Two additional bedrooms are in a private cottage tucked behind the villa. All bedrooms have either sea or garden views plus private seating inside and out. Poster beds, rattan and teak furniture, charming Provence and tropical inspired fabrics in blues, yellows and white create a romantic feel to the rooms. The en-suite bathrooms are gorgeous in traditional Provençal tiles and mosaics, each room in a different color.

Several bathrooms have either sea or garden views from their walk-in showers. The cottage bedroom suites each have a wet bar and fridge while also providing an interconnecting door, a great feature for families.

You are close to amenities. Two minutes to Baie Nettle's culinary stars Le Sand, Dreams and Mezza Luna. Wonderful gourmet food and wine stores are just a short drive in Cupecoy along with the Starz Casino and fine dining options Escape and Temptation. A short 15-minute drive and you are at the International airport or the nightlife of Maho. The French Capital, Marigot, is only 15 minutes from the villa where you can enjoy Duty Free shopping, boutiques, bakeries and the Creole Market.

Activities

Your villa manager will have a wealth of information about places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the area too. Most will live nearby and can give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of local life...

The best way to discover the way of life and customs of Saint Martin is to take a stroll through its towns and its villages.

Marigot, the cosmopolitan capital of the French side, is home to all the local government departments. Here, boutiques and trendy restaurants sit side-by-side with traditional stalls. Don't miss the colours, smells and buzz of the local market.
A former fishing village, Grand-Case has a unique Creole charm. Along its magnificent bay you will find a large number of restaurants in traditional huts and wattle houses.

In the remote village of Colombier, which is surrounded by nature on all sides, authenticity meets identity.
Having sprung up only recently in the last ten years, Orient Bay Village is considered one of the "musts" of the Caribbean.

On the land
Golf - Mullet Bay Golf Course
This 18-hole, par 70 course is a magnificent setting on the edge of Mullet Bay Beach on the Dutch part of the island.

Founded in 1990 by a small group of keen golfers looking to make their golfing experience more meaningful, the Sint Maarten Golf Association has over 130 players. Their mission: "to promote golf on Sint Maarten/Saint Martin and develop various golfing events for the enjoyment of participants and for the benefit of the community"

Bicycle
Some of the hiking trails listed above are accessible to competent mountain bikers or hybrid riders.
From the comfort of their saddle, cyclists cannot fail to be impressed by the island's variety, with mountain peaks, the limestone flats of the Terres Basses, coastal trails and tracks through the Nature Reserve packed into a relatively tiny area.

Horsing
Treks of various lengths to suit all levels provide an opportunity to explore the hills, discover unspoiled spots, gallop on deserted beaches and swim with your horse.

On the water
Wind surfing
Of all the water-based board sports, wind surfing, which harnesses the power of the wind to push you across the water, is surely one of the most exhilarating and most physically demanding. From first-timers to experienced funboarders, the eastern coast of the island, which is exposed to the trade winds, offers year-round fun in relatively sheltered surroundings.
Average winds are between force 3 and force 4.

Surfing
Of all the board sports, surfing demands a special effort from Mother Nature herself. This interaction with the immense power of the waves gives surfers a "philosophy" that is entirely unique to them. These spots are also suitable for body boarders and fearless wind surfers.

Jet-skiing
Jet skis can be rented on many of the island's beaches (Orient Bay, Baie Nettlé, Anse Marcel and others).
Do not enter the waters of the National Nature Reserve, where jet skiing is strictly prohibited.
On the French side, you are required by law to have a boat permit in order to rent a jet ski for personnal use.

Kite surfing
Kite surfing is a hybrid of kiting and windsurfing or surfing.
Orient Bay beaches, Nettle Bay, Cul de Sac Bay and Lucas Bay (Coralita) offer the best conditions for kite surfing and  lessons.

Stand-up paddle
It's easy, fun, and everyone can do it!
For beginners or advanced people, you'll (re)discover the water, with an original point of view. No need to be a great windsurfer or surfer, SUP is for everyone!
Standing on a paddleboard gives you a higher viewpoint, increasing visibility of what is going on around you, as well as a better view of the underwater life.

Hawaiian Canoe
Discover the joy of the Hawaiian canoe in the heart of the Nature Reserve in Saint-Martin!
The Hawaiian canoe is also called outrigger canoe and has the particularity to have a small craft (long and narrow) and a lateral support float called outrigger on its side. This ancestral boat made out of wood is conceived today in fiber glass to improve sensations. The canoe is originally from Polynesia.

Flyboard
Want to fly like Super Man and swim like a dolphin well that's possible. This new extreme water sport is an intense way of enjoying the sea from a whole different angle.

Under the water
Diving
The turquoise waters off Saint Martin are teeming with hidden treasures such as multicolored fish, rays, turtles, seashells and crustaceans, coral, seaweed and marine plants.
Scuba diving is the best way to experience the rich life of the ocean depths, especially when visibility is still possible at 100 meters underwater.

In the Air
Combining sport, leisure and adventure into one, paragliding and skydiving are a great way to take in the extent of the island's beauty.

Flying over Saint-Martin offers exceptional views of its hills and plains, its white sandy beaches framed by turquoise waters, its lagoons and limestone plateaus.

The most popular paragliding spot is in Cul-de-Sac, on the Grandes Cayes road. More experienced paragliders can launch from Pic Paradis.

Parasailing is a fun, water-based activity. Towed behind a boat, parasailers are launched into the air while attached to a parachute. It's an unforgettable experience that is better shared in pairs or threes.

Eating & Drinking
A melting pot of taste bud-tickling cuisine.

St. Martin has established a worldwide reputation for its fusion cuisine, and it shows no sign of stopping. A subtle blend of flavours combining innovation and tradition, one of the island's gems.

The variety of foods available on the island is vast, with fish, lobster and shellfish, succulent meats and traditional barbecues on the menu, all served up with local spices, Creole sauces or tropical fruits.

With its celebrated gourmet restaurants, cosy bistros, traditional eateries and beach lolos, St. Martin is truly the culinary capital of the Caribbean.
