Overview

Moskito Island is situated in the beautiful and unspoiled British Virgin Islands. The island currently features a Recreation Area and the three villa Branson Estate which is available to book on an exclusive-use basis for 22 guests. The Branson Estate was inspired by Necker Island, just a short boat ride away, and is available to book for anyone looking for a perfect balance of that 'home away from home' feeling combined with the full range of services you'd expect from a luxury resort. It's like we've thought of everything, and if we haven't you need only ask!

Guests staying the night on Moskito Island can be accommodated in the Branson Estate, a complex of three distinct villas including Headland House (3 bedrooms), Beach Villa (4 bedrooms) and Mangrove Villa (4 bedrooms). Typically all 11 bedrooms in the Branson Estate are hired for exclusive use for 22 people.

Accommodation

Headland House
Perched on an outcrop at the northeast tip of Moskito Island is Headland House, the heart of the Branson Estate. This impressive villa is arranged with three bedrooms and living space on the ground floor leading up to the Great Room on the upper floor. All areas of Headland House are accessible by elevator.

The most striking feature of the ground floor at Headland House is the wrap around infinity pool that meanders from just left of the main entrance around to the Master Suite. You can quite literally step out of bed in this room and straight into the pool! The shared living space on this floor includes sitting area with TV, kitchen and circular bar just off the pool.

There are three bedrooms at Headland House: The Master Suite and two additional guest rooms. Virtually all the walls to the Master Suite bedroom are in fact doors, and when fully opened this room has 180 degree views out to sea ? it's about as open as you can get. There is also a sundeck that extends out from bedroom so you can catch a few rays.

This room boasts direct access to the living area, to the infinity pool and to the suite of rooms behind the bed including bathroom, two walk-in wardrobes and laundry room. The other guest bedrooms are mirror images of each other, one facing out to sea on the corner of the building and the other facing both the sea and the island's Recreation Area.

Beach Villa
This cluster of houses was inspired by Richard's daughter Holly and has an enviable sheltered position just above a sandy beach with views out to sea and up to Headland House. The elevated rooms are set back from the water and connected by a raised wooden walkway that also leads across to neighbouring Mangrove Villa.

The main house features a fully equipped kitchen with a full-size fridge, separate temperature-controlled wine fridge and an additional mini-bar to keep all your favourite drinks and snacks cool. Lunch or dinner can be served at the dining table which comfortably seats eight and can be set up for al fresco meals on the deck just in front of the infinity pool. Back inside the house there is also a spacious lounge area for relaxing in the shade or for watching TV if there's a game you just can't miss! The house is fully air conditioned and is wired for sound so you can plug in your device and stream your own music. You can also use the control panel to control the lights and set the mood, and activate the hot tub that sits within the outdoor heated infinity pool.

Mangrove Villa
This villa was inspired by Richard's son Sam, and all guest rooms face east towards Necker Island and to the island of Virgin Gorda. Nestled in amongst the mangrove trees, all rooms are elevated and connected both to Headland House and to the neighbouring Beach Villa by wooden walkways. The rich wood interiors make for a cosy feel with Balinese style objects and carvings throughout.

On the ground floor of the main villa is a large lounge, fully-equipped kitchen, two breakfast bars and dining table, all looking out onto a deck which leads directly onto the infinity edge pool and Jacuzzi. With a full-size fridge, separate temperature-controlled wine fridge and additional drinks fridge in the kitchen, you only have to worry about keeping yourself cool. Luckily if the sea breezes aren't enough, the villa is fully air-conditioned and there's always the pool of course.

Staff & Services

One of the greatest advantages of staying in Moskito Island is the personalised service provided by dedicated fabulous staff.

Pool

Three infinity pools - one at each villa, as well as a shared infinity pool at the Recreation Area.

Location

Moskito Island is situated in the British Virgin Islands. The closest international airport is on Tortola (Beef Island ? airport code EIS) which is a 35-minute flight from San Juan and a 1 hour 20 minute flight from Antigua. It is possible to fly to the British Virgin Islands via many parts of the Caribbean, with the most popular routes being via San Juan, Antigua and St. Thomas. Private jets can land at Beef Island and at the airport in St. Thomas (STT).

There is a helipad on Moskito Island for a very quick connection, however please note that helicopter flights are not possible at night in the BVI. By private launch Moskito Island is approximately 30 minutes from Tortola and 10 minutes from Virgin Gorda where there is another smaller airport, however flights to this airport are limited and the runway is not paved.

Activities

With steady trade winds, warm turquoise waters, beautiful trails and two tennis courts, Moskito Island is the perfect playground for dozens of activities on land or on the water of course. A member of the Moskito Island team will chat to our guests each morning and again at lunchtime to arrange or facilitate any of the activities you'd like to try. Most of our activities are included in the exclusive use rate unless otherwise indicated. As a general rule if the activity involves leaving the island or if a boat with a motor is required then a charge will apply.

On land
Hiking
Moskito Island covers 125 acres with up to a 280 foot elevation. There are a number of trails throughout the island which will take you around the coast or over the ridge above the Recreation Area. Our team can take guests on a guided tour and share interesting facts about Moskito, or simply point you in the right direction to brave it alone! Closed shoes are recommended as there are a number of cacti around the trails, and don't forgot your camera and a bottle of water!

Mountain Biking
We have 12 mountain bikes for guests to use and a series of trails to suggest both on Moskito Island and off. For even more of a challenge, try the coral beds on Anegada Island or the steep rolling hills on Virgin Tortola. If you're travelling off island a charge will apply for this activity.

Fitness
If your intention is to work out and get stronger, the Moskito Island gym is the place to start. We have organic yoga mats, fitness balls and a Pilates instructor ready to go. We have a TRX system and all the usual fitness machines including a treadmill, elliptical (cross-trainer), rowing machine and upright bike.

Tennis
We have two floodlit Astroturf tennis courts located by the Beach House. Both courts have beginner and advanced rackets available along with ball baskets in the Tennis Pavilion. We can organise individual or groups lessons, tournaments, or just someone to hit a few balls with. If you'd like to 'rage against the machine', we have an automated ball machine available.

Team sports
If your group wants to show off their competitive side we can organise team games including basketball, 5-a-side football, beach volleyball, water volley, beach cricket, a mini golf course and even croquet on the lawn.

Treasure Hunts and Beach Olympics
These group activities are a great way to get everyone involved and can be adapted to suit all ages, particularly if there are children in your party, or adults who refuse to grow up.

On the water
Sailing
We have a fleet of three Hobie Cats located on the main beach and our team can offer beginner to advanced sailing instruction. Alternatively, if guests want to lie back and simply enjoy the exhilaration of being on the water, we can take them for a cruise around the area.

Kite surfing/kite boarding
Kite surfing, also known as Kite boarding, is a high adrenaline extreme sport. Our instructors can teach the rudiments of the sport in a controlled, safe environment on Eustacia Island. The first stage is simply mastering to fly a kite on the beach, and then we move into the water for some serious fun. We can also offer advanced tuition for anyone already riding. This is definitely one of the most exhilarating sports in the world and is open to almost all ages and sizes.

Windsurfing
We have a range of beginner, intermediate and advanced windsurfing equipment, and offer instruction for all standards. If the guest would rather go for a sail on their own, our Watersports Instructors will prepare equipment so it's ready for use when required and outline the reefs that are to be avoided.

Stand-Up-Paddle boarding (SUP)
The latest water sport to take the world by storm is paddle boarding! From the inland waterways of rural England to the mountainous waves of Maui, SUP allows riders of all ages and sizes to get on the water in any climate or location. Start on your knees to master the paddling technique and within five minutes you will be able to stand up like a surfer on flat water exercising your core and improving balance. Once you've mastered your skills on the flat water it's fun to try it in the surf!

Snorkelling
Guests have access to masks, snorkels and fins. All of our beaches offer excellent snorkelling depending on weather conditions, however Manchineel Beach has a sandy and safe launching point and the northern side of the island has a field of coral pods and varying depths. For guests wanting to venture further afield we can prepare our boats with all equipment, towels and a cooler and take you off to explore other underwater locations (an extra charge will apply).

Kayaking
A number of kayaks and paddles are stored at the watersports pavilion and are available for guest use. Life jackets are required at all times regardless of how skilled you may be and we have sizes appropriate for all ages.

Excursions
An extra charge will apply for all the activities listed below

Surfing
During the winter months (Dec ? May) the BVI gets many great days for surfing and Josiah's Bay, on Virgin Tortola, is a friendly beach where there are excellent waves for competent surfers and beginners. These trips can be half day or full day and are always extremely good fun as well as a great way to see some of the BVI.

Bath's Trip on Virgin Gorda
Combine hiking and snorkelling through world famous rock formations at the Bath's National Park on Virgin Gorda. Our powerboats can carry up to 28 guests to the BVIs' most famous attraction featuring granite boulders the size of houses which form a series of caves and grottos perfect for an adventure above and below the water.

Waterskiing and wakeboarding

We use a custom-designed ski boat or one of our 25ft RIBs (weather dependent) to cater for all skiing and wakeboarding needs. The best ski area is on the west side of Prickly Pear Island, less than a 5 minute boat ride from Moskito. We have beginner and advanced water-skis, wakeboards, kneeboards and offer high quality instruction for all these activities. We even have a Skurfer for those looking to surf behind the boat!

What's the weather like?
Unsurprisingly, this is one of the most common questions people ask us when planning a visit to Moskito Island. The average monthly temperature in the British Virgin Islands ranges from highs of around 82°F (28°C) in January to highs of roughly 95°F (35°C) in July. In short, it's hot and sunny pretty much all year round!

There is a consistent sea breeze to keep you cool and the water temperature ranges doesn't stray far from 76-80°F (24-27°C). Regardless of when visit, you can expect the weather to be warm and pleasant, with the months from September to December generally somewhat wetter than the rest of the year. July is the hottest month, but only by a few degrees.
