Overview

At Villa Asada, well away from the bright lights of the hedonistic south, we welcome you to another side of Bali, a well-kept secret that will entrance and delight you. Here, we provide a luxury launch pad for exploring the natural and cultural wonders of east Bali's villages, valleys and beaches, a tropical land less touched by tourism and the modern world.

Architecturally designed and lovingly decorated, Villa Asada is a contemporary expression of Bali-style, filled with antiques, deep comfortable furnishings and all the modern facilities necessary to create a sumptuous and stylish retreat of the highest possible standard.

From its hilltop perch on the island's remote eastern coast, the villa overlooks the calm blue waters and swaying coconut palms of Labuan Amuk Bay, where traditional fishing boats sail the trade winds by day and star-filled skies twinkle above the inky void at night.

Open, breezy and bright with sea views that will make you swoon, we provide you with nothing but the very best in service and cuisine to ensure that you will want for nothing, whether it's lazing beside the pool, drinks at the bar, alfresco dining under the frangipanis, or tuxedos, tiaras and little back dresses for a more formal soiree in the dining hall ? the choice is yours, just as it should be.

Accommodation

The villa comprises two double-storey pavilions built in an L-shape around an18 x 3-metre pool, both oriented to the south-east with uninterrupted views of Amuk Bay and the island of Nusa Penida. The main pavilion houses the formal living/dining room and kitchen area on the top floor and opens out onto a balcony. On the ground floor are two of the guest bedrooms, both flanking a large air-conditioned TV room and lounge. The second pavilion presents a master bedroom on each floor, while outside, beside the pool, is a bar complete with an alfresco lounge and dining space on the deck.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Master bedroom

Through the wide, heavy, carved wooden door into the upstairs master bedroom is where the magic happens at Asada. A vast palace of a room with high ceilings, private balconies, a king-sized bed sheathed in white netting, and a black-tiled bathroom fit for a queen. Privacy and ocean views in two directions make it hard to leave your bed each morning. Instead, why not order room service and revel in a comfort you just know you could become accustomed to.

Downstairs master

The downstairs master is a mirror of the room above except with its own terrace leading directly out to the garden and the pool. The views from the king-sized bed are every bit as awe-inspiring, and in the bathroom there is the added advantage of an open-air shower which takes bathing to a whole different level.

Guest rooms

Flanking the downstairs TV lounge the two guestrooms mirror each other, offering more than enough space, light and comfort for a delightful stay. They both have queen-sized beds and are tastefully filled with colourful soft furnishings and toe-pleasingly warm timber floors. Each leads out to the pool terrace and adjoins the TV room making them ideal for kids, and their ensuite bathrooms have both rain showers and tubs. One room has a slight advantage in that it looks out over the pool while also having a lily pond view from both the bed and the bath.

Living & Dining Areas

Living

The upstairs formal living and dining room is your first point of contact with Villa Asada, and is where the cold towels, tropical drinks and a warm Bali greeting awaits. Long comfortable couches, high ceilings, a heavy wooden dining table with seating for 12, and antique furnishings fill the space, yelling grandeur through every pore. Across the front wall, French doors fold back to show off the stunning views from the balcony, where a second, more informal dining table gives guests a chance to watch the twinkling lights of the coastline and ships riding at anchor by night, or to take in the twin blues of the sky and sea over a leisurely breakfast. The open-plan designer kitchen sits at the far end of the room and is split into two sections, front and back, each with ovens and prep areas, to allow for guests to cook if they choose while the staff remain discreetly out of sight.

The large and comfortable air-conditioned TV lounge lies downstairs between the two guest bedrooms and makes a beautiful respite from the Bali heat when you want to kick back in the cool and shade. Sink into its yielding couches and easy chairs or beanbags, and read a book or watch a Hollywood blockbuster on the massive, surround-sound-equipped flat-screen TV while munching on popcorn. Alternatively, this room will keep the kids entertained for hours, giving you more time to laze in the sun or take a dip in the pool.

Dining

Even in villa-rich Bali, it's rare to have an indoor area with such a delightful sense of space, light and airiness. The glass doors that surround the upstairs living area ensure that guests don't miss out on the spectacular views or the tropical location. The upstairs includes an open plan lounge with a couch that seats 8 and a dining area with a 5 metre table made from teak wood sourced from an old bridge that seats ten. A small balcony at the back overlooks the carp pond with the ever present gentle sound of flowing water from outdoor fountain below.
The gourmet kitchen is divided into two halves giving the option for the chef to interact with the guests or retreat to a private cooking area. The bar that seats four at the kitchen bench makes a lovely spot for a quick coffee or snack.

The garden is ?swimming? with places to relax in either an upright or horizontal position. Eight sunloungers line the pool?s deck and terrace, each with umbrellas, and with some sharing the shade of the yellow and pink frangipani trees that overhang the 18-metre infinity edge pool. A well-stocked bar, complete with swivel stools and martini shakers, sits next to a cushioned sitting area on the terrace, a table tennis table, and a long 10-seater wooden table providing the alfresco luncheon venue. A well manicured lawn lets you get the grass between your toes and finally, a cushioned Balinese gazebo sits at the very front of the property right upon the cliff's edge.

Location

Villa Asada is located less than ten minutes' drive from the quiet seaside village of Candidasa, which boasts a rich heritage close to many of Bali's most important historical landmarks and attractions.

This beautiful, undeveloped area is set well away from the hustle and bustle of mainstream tourism in the island's magnificent eastern regency of Karangasem' an exotic royal Balinese kingdom of forests and mighty mountains, emerald rice terraces, islands, beaches, temples and palaces.

Visitors can take advantage of the many first-class restaurants in Candidasa, shop for bargains in vibrant local markets, or enjoy cultural performances of Hindu dance epics. The villa is a great base from which to visit ancient kingdoms and mystical palaces whilst more energetic activities include rafting dramatic rivers, climbing mighty volcanoes, and snorkelling or scuba diving into an exotic world of multi-coloured fish.

Just a few kilometres away, Padang Bai is a major harbour for ferries to Lombok as well as for smaller boats to Nusa Penida.

Activities

Your villa manager will typically have a wealth of information about nearby places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any tour bookings for you. Do ask other members of staff about the local area too. Invariably some of them will live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.
In the meantime, here?s a taste of some of the activities on offer within reach of the villa:

  • Hit the beach! Swim or snorkel among the corals in the bay off the quiet, pretty, black-sand beach at Pantai Labuan Amuk or rent a sunbed under the shade of a coconut palm and have a massage on the beautiful sands of nearby Pasir Putih (White Sand Beach, also known as the Virgin Beach) whose isolated 500m stretch is one of Bali?s best kept secrets.

  • The picturesque harbour and village of Padang Bai (for ferries and fast boats to and from Lombok) has a sandy beach and lots of local cafes. Nearby is the snorkelling and dive site known as the Blue Lagoon, with its white sandy beach and abundant sea life.

  • Visit the ancient Hindu Goa Lawah (bat cave) temple, 10km west of Candidasa, which guards the Balinese against dark spirits from the ocean.

  • The beautiful water palace at Tirta Ganga owned by the Karangasem Royal Family, is just to the north of Karangasem town. There are stunning rice paddy terraces in this area as well. Other historical attractions include the 150-year-old water gardens of Taman Sukasada and Puri Agung Karangasem, a mystical royal palace located right in the heart of Amlapura.

  • Odyssey Submarine Adventure based in Amuk Bay is an ideal activity for those who would like to witness marine life without having to scuba dive. At a depth of 20 metres, you can watch a team of professional divers attract the reef fish by feeding them immediately in front of the portholes of the vessel.

  • The ancient walled village of Tengenan is one of Bali's original pre-Hindu settlements and a stronghold of native traditions. It is famous for its hand-woven double ikat cloth, known as geringsing, which is thought to have magic powers. Visitors are welcomed at Tenganan during daylight hours, and the village is also the start of treks through rural farmlands.

  • Go white water rafting on Telaga Waja River, starting in the foothills of Mount Agung in the Karangasem regency. This 12km or two-hour river trip will thrill the whole family.

  • Scuba dive the wreck of the Liberty (a US cargo ship torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942) 30m below the waves off the black pebble beach at Tulumben.

  • From Candidasa, jukung fishing boats can be chartered for snorkelling, fishing or just plain exploring the beaches and bays of south east Bali.

  • Snorkelling is also good here.

Additional Notes

Families
The family-friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus ? and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too. Our team of friendly staff at Villa Asada will make youngsters feel as welcome as adults, they are very happy to assist with children during the daytime when parents present, and having these willing helpers on hand will give you the flexibility to do your own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).

Although Villa Asada is a great villa for families, toddlers will need to be carefully supervised around the swimming pool, fish pond and lily pond. Kids will love the lawn ? perfect for a game of tag or football and there are some lovely wooden animal statues that the gardener arranges in different spots every day. If it happens to be a rainy day, don?t despair as the villa is well equipped with children's DVDs and boardgames and the entertainment room provides plenty of space for kids to play. Kids will also love the Table Tennis, which can be used either indoors or outdoors.

Our fully-equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy young eaters or babies with ease, but the staff will also be very happy to do this for you ? just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or the cooks and they will take care of the rest. Don't worry about packing all that cumbersome kids' equipment for your stay. Just let us at Villa Asada know what you need, and anything we don't have in-house (villa facilities include a baby cot and highchair) can be hired on your behalf

Spa Services
Feel like a body scrub or massage? Just ask our staff to bring the spa to you! We can recommend deluxe treatments carried out in the privacy of your own villa by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here's a sample of what's on the menu:

Balinese massage
Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage. Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body, you will feel totally relaxed in no time.

Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.

Body scrub

A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.

Manicure/Pedicure
Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.

Gym
Fancy an early morning workout? Villa Asada has a gym equipped with a treadmill, a bike and a weight machine. The room is air-conditioned so you can cross train to your heart's content. Alternatively, for a gentler form of exercise, you can work with the fitness balls or do some yoga stretches. In-villa private yoga sessions can also be arranged ? please speak with the villa manager.

Weddings & Events
Villa Asada presents the perfect setting for weddings, parties and other special events.

The extensive lawns are also ideal for open-air Balinese dance performances and parties.
Catering can be managed by professional caterers who have the world-class expertise to prepare a sumptuous feast in addition to the coordination of decorations, flowers, lighting and entertainment. Additional fees apply, please contact us for details.
