Location

Villa Kalyani is in a quiet street in the rural village of Berawa, Canggu. In the area around the villa are a sprinkling of other luxury villas, some picturesque terraced rice fields and the rugged surf beach of Berawa (2km). Within two kilometres is the Canggu Plaza, a food court and small shopping precinct presenting Trattoria Cucina Italiana restaurant, Suksema sushi, a beauty care centre, an ATM and a couple of boutiques. Next to this is a deli called Canggu Station and the Finns Recreation Club, and nearby are some café-style restaurants, simple spas, and a yoga centre.

Activities

Villa Kalyani's manager has a wealth of information about nearby places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the local area; many of them live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.

In the meantime, here is a taste of the activities on offer within reach of the villa.

1. Explore the scenic rice-field landscape and rural villages on the villa's bicycles  a great way to get under the skin of the real Bali. Stop off at a local warung (café) to sample some basic Balinese fare or cool off with a cold drink.

2. Villa Kalyani is only 14km from Tanah Lot's famous sea temple, although in peak season a few too many tourists may transform a sunset visit into more of a heaving photo opportunity than a moving experience. Visiting early in the morning (8-9am) provides a better idea of the power of the location and the chance to see it undisturbed apart from perhaps an offering ceremony.

3. A nice sunset alternative is to head down to Echo Beach (3km) where a number of cafes offer good sunset views and cold beer. Note that the beach here is dark volcanic sand and the waters are better suited to surfing, having a pronounced swell and rip, rather than children?s swimming. Hotel Tugu, a very stylish and eclectic boutique hotel a few minutes further down the coast is also a good sunset spot.

4. Fashionistas, trendies and shop-a-holics should hot-foot it down to Seminyak, Bali's most cosmopolitan enclave (6km). Here, you can indulge for hours in the glut of stylish, chic boutiques. There is a wide choice of fine dining, mid range, and cheap 'n cheerful restaurants in Seminyak too: fine dining venues include Sarong, the famous Ku Dé Ta, Mama San, Merah Putih, La Lucciola, Sardine and Métis.

5. Drive westwards to explore the charming Tabanan regency, revealing terraced rice fields of emerald green, volcanic mountains and black-sand beaches dotted with fishing communities. You may wish to visit the breathtaking panorama of the Jatiluwih rice terraces, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 for its preservation of traditional Balinese farming techniques. At a height of 850m above sea level, the view here is one of the finest imaginable.

6. Head north to explore the volcanic lakes near the mountain town of Bedugul, including Lake Bratan with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu  one of Bali's most important temples.

7. The most exclusive Bali trekking tour promises breath-taking vistas and heart-warming encounters while supporting sustainable social change in the once-forgotten villages of Muntigunung.

8. Bali Treetop Adventure Park is near the town of Bedugal in northern central Bali (next to Lake Bratan). Five adventure circuits, with heights ranging from two to 20 metres, challenge all level and ages on suspended bridges, spider nets, Tarzan jumps and 12 flying foxes.

9. Covering 3.8 hectares of tropical parkland in Kuta, Waterbom Bali has 16 water slides (including The Climax with its 360 degree loop) to entertain the young and the young at heart. A great family day out, but go early to beat the crowds.

Services included

Villa manager; private chef; butlers; garden/pool maintenance; security.
Babysitters and spa therapists available on request.

Additional Notes

Families
The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus  and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.

With the provision of games, pool toys, DVDs and Nintendo Wii, Villa Kalyani is a great villa for families with older children. Families with toddlers, however, will need to be vigilant around the pool, steep staircases, ponds and water features. For children under 7, a bouncy castle can be rented for USD50 per day.

The team of friendly staff at Villa Kalyani will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).

Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for you just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest. Pancakes by the pool for breakfast? Toasties for tea on the roof terrace? No problem. The chef can customise all meals to suit children's taste buds.

And don't worry about packing all that cumbersome kids' equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need, and anything we don't have in-house (villa facilities include a baby cot, highchair and a car seat) we can hire on your behalf (click here to see list of available hire items).
And when the excitement of exploring the villa starts to wear off, check out our Things to do page  there's plenty in the area to keep kids of all ages amused throughout the holiday.

Dining
The personal chef at Villa Kalyani is at your service to prepare daily breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hailing from one of Bali's most famous restaurants, the former internationally-acclaimed Kafe Warisan, the chef is well versed in preparing the most sumptuous cuisines from round the world, but with special emphasis on French and Mediterranean food.

The villa offers an extensive suggestion menu of delicious home-style meals featuring Asian and international dishes to cater to all tastes, with an excellent selection of vegetarian and children?s options. The chef is also more than happy to tailor meals to accommodate any special dietary requirements.

Groceries and beverages are charged at cost price plus 20%++ handling fee which is subject to service and tax at the prevailing rate. Guests will be requested to provide an advance cash float for special request meals. Staff will take care of the shopping and keep receipts for reference. To make the most of the kitchen and allow time for grocery shopping, it is a good idea to plan meals the evening before or with a minimum of five hours advance notice.

Spa
Feel like a body scrub or massage? Just ask our staff to bring the spa to you! The villa has two purpose-built massage beds and we can recommend deluxe treatments carried out by the pool, the outdoor living room or in the privacy of your own room by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here's a sample of what's on the menu:

Balinese massage
Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage. Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body, you will feel totally relaxed in no time.

Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.

Body scrub
A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.

Manicure/pedicure
Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.

Weddings
The sheer spaciousness of both the villa and the grounds at Villa Kalyani create the perfect environment for both weddings, large family gatherings and parties, with two bar areas, a rooftop reception terrace overlooking the pool, speakers wired throughout the gardens and buildings, a built-in professional DJ deck and a purpose-built dance floor.

We can recommend expert event organisers, florists, decorators and caterers so you can focus on relaxing and celebrating with your guests.
  • Max people sitting: 60 guests (weather dependent)
  • Max people standing: up to 80 guests (cocktail)
