Villa Levi's four generous air-conditioned bedrooms are all equipped with satellite TV/DVD players, mini bars, customised amenites and ample storage space. Each is decorated with eclectic artwork and artefacts. Deluxe beds are covered in Egyptian cotton linens, and set under four-poster canopies draped with sheer netting.

Casa Echo
The master suite, which is slightly larger than the other rooms, is furnished with a king-size bed and large sofa. The luxurious covered garden bathroom is fringed with greenery, and fitted with double rain showers overlooking the river. A wooden path way flanked by fish ponds leads to the enchanting outdoor jacuzzi.

Pool View I
This spacious room is furnished with a queen-size bed, sofa and antique display cabinet. In the pastel green bathroom the rain shower is surrounded by a veranda with an outdoor marble bathtub tucked in one corner. The walk-in dressing room overlooks the trees and is big enough to be used as an additional bedroom.

Pool View II
In this second guest room, twin beds adorned in traditional ikat textiles can be converted to a king. Glass doors open onto the garden, and the indoor bathroom is fitted with a tub, walk-in dressing room, rain shower and additional courtyard shower.

Casa River
Stone walls meet polished stone floors in this atmospheric river-front room with queen-size bed, massive corner lounge suite and bamboo lined ceiling. From the indoor bathroom, which is fitted with a walk-in shower, a door leads onto a deck where a round marble bathtub overlooks the trees. This room doubles as a TV lounge.

Stepping-stones over a pond lead past a long Palimanan frieze and into the open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas that overlook the whole property and the rice fields beyond. A large comfortable sofa and coffee table are set in one corner, and a stone-topped table seats six. The island-style guest kitchen and wet bar is equipped with a hob, fridge and espresso machine, and bar stools at the counter make a great place for enjoying a cocktail or a bottle of wine, while an iPod and dock provide entertainment.

The dining wing is dominated by a massive table carved from a single tree trunk, accompanied by eight plump-cushioned chairs. Stone shelving lines one of the walls with an evocative collection of earthenware pots and ethnic curios.

Casual lounge areas throughout the villa make comfortable corners to congregate or peaceful havens for solitude. The pool deck is furnished with three double sun loungers shaded by graceful parasols, and two long tables overlooking the river are perfect for alfresco meals. Meanwhile, in the poolside bale, soft cushions create a tempting spot for a siesta.

Stairs lead up to a charming rooftop terrace suitable for morning yoga or moments of quiet reflection, and down to a riverfront deck shaded by giant trees and furnished with huge stone pots filled with ornamental palms. To the rear of the deck, the spa - a soothing space with two massage beds - is adjoined by an air-conditioned gym.

One of the greatest advantages of staying in a villa is the personalised service provided by dedicated staff. Villa Levi's staff have been professionally trained and will do their utmost to please with their warm and friendly Balinese hospitality.

Villa manager
Villa Levi's friendly and helpful manager is responsible for overall operations. His job is to oversee and coordinate the staff and property and to assist guests during their stay.

Chef
The villa's skilled private chef will happily prepare anything from the Western, Asian and vegetarian à la carte menu, as well as accommodate special requests, children's meals and dietary requirements.

Butlers
Our butler serves meals, arranges transport and in-villa activities, and assists the manager in daily operations.

A villa attendant looks after daily housekeeping and domestic duties.

Villa Levi is in the popular but still predominantly rural district of Canggu, just a few minutes away from Echo Beach, a popular sunset spot with casual eateries strung along the rocks. Monsieur Spoon is also nearby, and is the best place around for fresh-baked bread, cakes and pastries. The Canggu Club, with its state-of-the-art gym, tennis courts and restaurants is easily reached, and while you are there why not pop into the Canggu Deli next door - a good place to stock up on provisions. Bali's cosmopolitan hub, Seminyak, with its myriad restaurants, bars and boutiques is 11 kilometres to the south. Head 10 kilometres north west to visit the spectacularly situated Tanah Lot sea temple and the scenic Nirwana Bali Golf Club frequently voted the number one golf course in Asia.

Many of them live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.

In the meantime, here is a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within reach of the villa.

• Head out to the unbelievably scenic Nirwana Bali Golf Course. Bordered by ocean and rice fields and just down from Tanah Lot sea temple, no wonder this championship-standard course (designed by golf legend, Greg Norman) is frequently voted number one in Asia. The twelfth hole is one of the most photographed in the world, as it overlooks the famous Tanah Lot temple.

• If you've always dreamed of galloping along a beach or riding through villages bordered by rice fields, now's your chance. Bali Horse Adventure and Kuda P Stables (both in Pererenan) can arrange horse riding tours, as well as children's riding lessons and horse-drawn carriage outings.

• Make a pilgrimage to sacred Pura Tanah Lot, one of Bali's biggest tourist magnets. Perched high on a craggy, wave-lashed rock, this ancient sea temple is best savoured at sunset; be sure to receive a blessing from the Hindu Priests (and watch out for the monkeys, who are very adept at helping themselves to anything from snacks to sunglasses and even cameras!).

• Visit the mystical Hotel Tugu (Bali's first museum-hotel) studded with priceless Indonesian artworks and antiques. Its award-winning spa offers age-old Eastern therapies. If you're planning a honeymoon, this makes a wonderful first night venue. The hotel's restaurants offer authentic Chinese and Indonesian fine dining, as well as an international menu, in a variety of unique settings. At the rustic Waroeng Tugu you can taste the traditional Javanese and Balinese cuisine of bygone centuries.

• There's a strip of restaurants and cafés at Echo Beach offering a wide range of dining options from chic and scene-ful to cheap and cheerful. Try The Beach House for fresh seafood barbecues every night and live music on Sundays, and do check out Café Dian, and Mandira for their great fish ?n chips.

• Uluwatu is the place for surfing enthusiasts. Most of the breaks here are only suitable for advanced or expert surfers - the waves are big here. Particular highlights are Uluwatu, Dreamland, Padang-Padang, Bingin/Impossibles and Suluban.

• If you are a bold and brave bargain hunter, a spree within the heart of Bali's bustling provincial capital is an exciting and rewarding experience. Visit Denpasar's vibrant markets, where everything and anything is available.

• Fashionistas, trendies and shop-a-holics should hot-foot it down to Seminyak, Bali's most cosmopolitan enclave. Here, you can indulge for hours in the glut of stylish, chic boutiques. There is a wide choice of fine dining, mid range, and cheap ?n cheerful restaurants in Seminyak too: fine dining venues include Sarong, the famous Ku De Ta, Mama San, La Lucciola, Sardine and Métis.

• Explore the charming Tabanan regency, revealing terraced rice fields of emerald green, volcanic mountains and black-sand beaches dotted with fishing communities. Or head north to explore the volcanic lakes near the mountain town of Bedugul, including Lake Bratan with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu - one of Bali's most important temples.

• Acclaimed as the world's best, the atmospheric Elephant Safari Park in Taro (north of Ubud) provides a sanctuary for elephants rescued from Sumatra, with opportunities for trekking, hand feeding, and photo taking. There is also a fascinating museum and an excellent restaurant in a beautiful tropical setting deep in the forests of Bali's hinterland.
