Overview

The seductively exotic Villa Hansa lays claim to an exclusive riverside position overlooking south-west Bali's luscious rice terraces.  This luxurious private villa is set in the beautiful village of Pererenan, where bohemian cafés meet traditional Balinese life within a stone's throw of the ever-popular Echo Beach and its revered surf break.

A chic contemporary pavilion and antique timber joglos elegantly adapted for luxury living house Villa Hansa's seven bedrooms.  Sweeping lawns, gorgeous tropical gardens, two swimming pools and dining areas, a barbecue and billiard balé, yoga studio, garden grottos and a full team of professional staff coalesce to create a chilled and extravagant habitat.

Accommodation

The heavy antique gates of Villa Hansa immediately set a tone of exquisite style.  The gates open to a stone staircase flanked by fish- and lotus-flower-filled-ponds and fragrant frangipani trees.  An ancient timber joglo is repurposed to create a chic living space adorned with a stunning collection of precious Indonesian artefacts.  Ceiling-to-floor glass overlooks a lush slice of this delicious estate, and beyond to traditionally farmed rice terraces.

Seven luxurious bedrooms are spaced throughout the estate, providing an ideal arrangement for extended families or groups of friends to enjoy blissful privacy.  Expansive lawns separate the buildings, dotted with shady daybeds set within the established tropical gardens that also forge secluded spaces.

At the centre of Villa Hansa is an 16-metre swimming pool, which is crowned by an open-fronted entertainment space and bordered by sun loungers, cushioned daybeds and a freshwater shower carved from stone.  Beyond the pool a large balé with charming views of the river and surrounding rice fields houses a pool table, abundant seating and a barbecue.

The epic master suite presides over an entire wing of the villa in a converted joglo overlooking a private 12-metre swimming pool flanked with sun decks and a balé.  This suite is connected to a movie room that adjoins a timber gladak, which makes a perfect bedroom for young children.

Villa Hansa's seven luxurious bedrooms are housed beneath elegant ironwood-shingle roofs with ceilings of exposed beams and woven rattan.  Ensuite bathrooms feature private walled garden spaces that epitomise chic tropical elan.  From large windows views of lush green landscapes predominate.  Four of the villa's guest bedrooms are named after the Hindu gods Brahma, Wisnu, Siwa and Ganesha; all featuring netted four-poster king-size beds and cooled by fans and air conditioning.

A team of ten staff ensures seamless service while the chef prepares gorgeous Indonesian and western meals.  The manager is a spiritual guide and every full moon at Villa Hansa is celebrated with centuries old ceremonies at the riverside temple.  Guests can enjoy days of relaxation by the pool and easy strolls to the beach offering an abundance of intriguing local scenes, from farmers tending their rice fields to the making of bamboo leaf cenang offerings and children practising traditional dances.

Living & Dining Areas

Indoor living

At Villa Hansa's heart is a repurposed antique timber joglo with floor-to-ceiling windows and cool air conditioning.  A deep cushioned sofa and soft chairs are positioned below an ornately carved timber tampung sari (the heavily stepped and sculpted centre of the joglo ceiling) while a two-metre-long table hewn from a single piece of wood is housed in a cool corner.
A guest kitchen and service counter lies behind a bar that has comfortable stool seating for four people.  Antiques and rare artefacts, including a beautiful old china cabinet and rattan rooster cages, give this room a sleek and polished ambiance.

Overlooking Villa Hansa's swimming pool is a casual open-fronted, fan-cooled pavilion that is perfect for relaxed dining, board games and simply chilling.  The main kitchen, where staff create gourmet meals and brew delicious ginger tea, is in this pavilion, which is bordered by gardens both water and flowering - and is decorated with quirky pieces, including a series of chicken statues.  The dining table here seats 12 people and several low-slung chairs provide a comfy base from which to relax and watch over pool shenanigans.  The polished timber floors are bordered with white stone and the vibe is shabby chic.

Outdoor living
Villa Hansa's 18-metre swimming pool is deep at one end and very shallow at the other, making it perfect for morning laps, a spot of diving or a place for little people to splash.  Elegant daybeds and sun loungers surround the pool - some under the shade of umbrellas.  A fresh water shower, carved in the image of a Hindu goddess, is recessed into the garden borders.

A large balé, facing the river and rice fields at the far side of the gardens, makes a great space for lazy barbecue lunches interspersed by cooling dips in the pool and friendly tournaments at the full size pool table.

Tucked into a quite corner by the river is the spacious yoga studio.  This is the perfect place to spend a quiet morning of meditation and asanas, or to watch a traditional Balinese dance performance, which the manager will happy arrange.

Feel free to ask him about everything from meal times to organising a traditional dance performance at the villa.  You can also talk to him about the level of service or staff presence you prefer.  For example would you like staff visibly present to serve refreshments throughout the day or just to have them available to serve at meal times?

Activities

Villa Hansa is fabulously located for an exciting range of activities to suit all ages and tastes.  Chat with the villa manager, who lives locally and is happy to offer suggestions and share his insights about the local places of interest and Balinese culture.  You may find yourself invited to a unique and unforgettable Balinese Hindu ceremony.

Meanwhile, here are a few suggestions to get your vacation started.  The villa manager will happily arrange to transport and specialist tours too.

  • Learn to surf at Echo Beach or Batu Bolong.
  • Spend a lazy afternoon at the hip Old Man?s beach bar on Batu Bolong, where local hero DJ?s spin their stuff. It?s great for kids with table tennis and other games.
  • The most exclusive Bali trekking tour promises breath-taking vistas and heart-warming encounters while supporting sustainable social change in the once-forgotten villages of Muntigunung.
  • On Canggu Beach, be sure to visit mystical Hotel Tugu Bali. Bali?s first museum/hotel is studded with priceless Indonesian artworks and antiques and its award-winning spa offers age-old Eastern therapies. If you?re planning a honeymoon, this makes a wonderful first night venue before continuing on with your villa stay.
  • While in Bedugul visit the UNESCO listed rice terraces of Jati Luwih and beautiful water temple of Pure Ulun Danau Bratan.
  • Feed rescued Sumatran elephants at the superb Elephant Safari Park in the lush mountains of Taro.
  • Make the de rigueur pilgrimage to sacred Pura Tanah Lot, one of Bali?s biggest tourist magnets. Perched high on a craggy, wave-lashed rock, this ancient sea temple is best savoured at sunset; be sure to receive a blessing from the Hindu priests.
  • Gallop along the beach, or trek through the rice fields and villages of Canggu with Kuda P, a well-established, Australian-owned and operated horse riding stables, catering to all ages and abilities.
  • Covering 3.8 hectares of tropical parkland in Kuta, Waterbom Bali has 16 water slides (including The Climax with its 360 degree loop) to entertain the young and the young at heart. A great family day out, but go early to beat the crowds.

Services included

Villa manager; cooks; housekeeping; security.  Additional staff (babysitters, masseuses) available on request.

Additional Notes

Families
The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want.  Villa Hansa is wonderful for families with older children, but those with toddlers will need to be vigilant given the riverside location and the many fishponds and water features.

The team of friendly staff at Villa Hansa will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds. If parents require full-time babysitters, the villa manager can arrange for the service at a small extra cost.

Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will be happy to do this for you ? just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or cooks and they will take care of the rest.  Pancakes by the pool for breakfast?  Toasties for tea?  No problem.  The chefs will customise all meals to suit children's taste buds.

Don't worry about packing all that cumbersome kids' equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need, and anything we don't have in-house (villa facilities include a baby cot, highchair and games) we can hire on your behalf

Dining
Villa Hansa's kitchen is staffed by two cooks who provide delicious meals from morning until night.

The menus
The villa offers an extensive suggestion menu of delicious home-style meals featuring Asian and international dishes to cater to all tastes, with a wonderful selection of vegetarian and children's options.  The cooks are also more than happy to tailor meals to accommodate any special dietary requirements.  A stay is not complete without sampling the wonderful chicken curry with a tantalising urap (mixed Balinese vegetables with shredded coconut and chilli) or pisang goreng (fried banana) with ice cream.  The fresh seasonal fruit served at breakfast time is divine.

Grocery system
Groceries and beverages are charged at cost price plus 20% handling fee which is subject to service charge and tax at the prevailing rate.  Guests are requested to provide grocery money in advance, and the staff will do the shopping and keep the receipts for reference.  To make the most of the kitchen and give staff time to shop, it is a good idea to plan meals the evening before.

Spa
Feel like a body scrub or massage?  Just ask our staff to bring the spa to your own room.  We can recommend deluxe treatments carried out by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply).  Here's a sample of what's on the menu:

Massage
Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage.  Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body you will feel totally relaxed in no time.

Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet corresponding to every part of the body.  Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.

Body scrub
A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth.  A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.

Manicure/pedicure
Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve.  Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.

Transport

A private chauffeured car is available to hire for up to 8 hours a day at a special daily rate of US$ 35++.  Parking space is available within the villa compound for self-drivers
