Overview
Welcome to Villa Voyage - a spectacular five-bedroom villa according absolute beachfront luxury in laid-back Nusa Lembongan, off Bali's eastern coast.
Voyage implies a journey, an adventure, an odyssey. It suggests the era of grand sojourns, of cruise ships and safaris, and is the perfect name for a villa whose owner loves to travel the globe: Farah Khan, whose fashion creations are favoured by many Hollywood celebrities, has styled Voyage as a barefoot luxury abode, while maintaining the old world charm of coconut-wood floors, bamboo, thatched alang-alang roof and driftwood lamps in a tropical island setting metres from the white-sand beach.
There's a sense of space and freedom in the contemporary interiors, with comfortable sofas and tables crafted from reclaimed limed teakwood set before walls of glass framing the sea view beyond the deck. Accenting the neutral colour palette of creams and greys are couture designer touches and decorative flourishes supporting the glamour travel theme - vintage Louis Vuitton monogram steamer trunks; Prada, Tods, Aigner, and various other designer luggage, and lavishly illustrated coffee table books on exotic destinations, culture, art and architecture. Amplifying the luxury safari look is canvas and leather furniture from the Esprite Nomade collection, including their renowned bespoke tents that float over Voyage's supremely comfortable beds.
Beyond the villa walls, Voyage keeps true to its luxury adventure theme. On an island that has few cars, the villa has its own safari-style open-sided buggy for land transfers, and also available to villa guests for island expeditions is the Voyage jukung, a traditional outrigger fishing boat that has been transformed into a designer pleasure craft complete with Emilio Pucci print cushions and gourmet picnic baskets. Of course, as in the days of grand travel where one was accompanied by a retinue of helpers, guests can expect to be cosseted by the villa's charming staff.
As a designer beach retreat, Villa Voyage is incomparable. It is particularly suited to couples, groups of friends and extended families, and will be appreciated by lovers of design aesthetics and effortless chic.
Accommodation
Villa Voyage is an imposing double-height pavilion oriented along the beachfront to make the most of the magnificent sea vistas - 26 metres of bi-fold and sliding doors open onto a spacious ironwood deck with free-form infinity pool, beyond which turquoise-tipped breakers claim the fine white sand. The open-plan living area takes up the lion's share of the pavilion. At one end is the dining area, bar and guests' kitchen and, beyond, the chef's kitchen; at the opposite end is the master bedroom suite and a second bedroom suite. Stairs lead to the mezzanine level where a galleried walkway overlooking the sitting area below leads to the two mezzanine ocean suites at either end.
A separate pavilion set in the garden within the villa's walled compound houses the fifth bedroom suite, and a third discreetly placed building by the villa's entrance is used as staff quarters.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
Villa Voyage's five spacious bedroom suites are equipped with queen-size beds, ensuite bathrooms and either balconies or garden terraces. King Koil goose down pillows, deep foam mattresses and designer bed linen ensure a good night's sleep - with rooms offering the choice of air-conditioning or overhead fan.
Voyage - mezzanine ocean suite suite
Each of the two identical and enormous mezzanine ocean suites expresses the villa's luxury tented safari theme to perfection; a queen-size bed is cocooned under a floating canvas tent suspended from the apex of the alang-alang roof, and the rooms are furnished with wardrobe ?tents' in the dressing area, a folding writing desk, day bed, and steamer trunks. Coconut-wood walls and floors continue the rustic-luxe look, and large Pucci print cushions add a dash of blue to the otherwise neutral palette of browns and creams. A soaring triangular wall of glass to the front opens onto a large private ironwood balcony furnished with a round table and chairs and a pair of sun loungers and stunning sea views. To the rear of the bedroom, cunningly concealed behind screens of canvas, is a large open-plan bathroom with double basins and mirrors and glazed terrazzo enclosure with rain shower.
Voyage - master suite
Below, the master suite continues the ?luxury under canvas' theme, with a four-poster queen bed bedecked with canvas and leather trim, a steamer trunk acting as a media cabinet for the flat-screen 40-inch TV, a canvas seating area that conceals a spare bed, and canvas-backed directors chairs set before sliding doors delightfully opening onto the pool deck. Beyond the bedroom is a dressing area lined with leather-trimmed rattan clothes storage and shelving designed to accommodate the most profligate packer. This leads into the bathroom with double basins, patio with open-air shower and, taking pride of place before sliding doors to the beachside deck, a sculptured terrazzo bathtub.
Voyage - garden suite
Next door, facing away from the sea, is the garden suite. The contemporary four-poster bed laden with colourful cushions faces a small courtyard and, on one side, a balcony with table and chairs. A particular feature is the traditional leather travelling desk which doubles as a dressing table. The large ensuite bathroom has a wardrobe of rattan and leather, double basins and, set in a sun-filled patio, an open-air shower.
Voyage - garden pavilion suiteVoyage - garden pavilion suite
The garden pavilion suite stands alone, surrounded by white sand in the villa grounds. Its' harem-style silken ceiling calls to mind Bedouin tents and desert hospitality, and such romance continues in the soft furnishings and decorations. Walls of glass offer glimpses of the sea and lead onto a private deck. The ensuite bathroom is discreetly tucked around the corner of the walled garden deck.
Living & Dining Areas
Indoor Living
Villa Voyage's magnificent living room is open-plan for easy entertaining, its walls of glass doors leading onto the pool terrace and highlighting the stunning tropical beachfront setting. (The doors fold back completely for open-air sea-breeze living, or can be closed to create air-conditioned comfort.) Within the double-height central section, four over-size cream upholstered sofas are arranged around a sectional coffee table set before a console with 60-inch LED TV, Apple TV, DVD and iPod.
The owners' exquisite taste and design influence is everywhere: Louis Vuitton trunks provide voyage-themed displays; Thai, lacquer ware offering bowls provide red accents and richly scented candles tease the senses; lavishly illustrated books on Balinese customs, exotic travel and the best of international interiors engage the mind. Above, a halo of over-size canvas lampshades lures the eye towards the mezzanine gallery - noted designer, Ari Saski Wekku, also created the cigar-shaped driftwood statement lamp over the entrance. On the far side of the living pavilion are two dining tables of reclaimed limed teakwood, each with six canvas director's chairs. An island of teakwood and marble acts as buffet, bar and cooking station for when guests wish to whip up a gourmet meal themselves. Behind is the chef's kitchen, equipped with everything required to lavishly entertain 20-plus people.
Outdoor living
Bridging the pavilion and the beach is an huge ironwood deck overlooking the turquoise waters of Sandy Bay, with a 12m x 5m free-form tension-edge pool big enough for swimming laps yet with a shallow platform for relaxation. Equally evident here is the exquisite attention to design detail found within the villa. Poolside beanbags, sun loungers and daybeds invite indolence, and a shoreline pergola provides shade for two defined areas: an over-size daybed platform inches away from the beach for sea-breeze siestas and sunset cocktails, and semi-circular seating curved around a teak table laden with shells - the perfect spot for a leisurely breakfast. Stylized animal-print cushions add just the right touch of glamour, and at night the area is transformed by clever ambient lighting that illuminates the palms and bathes the pool in changing colours.
A few steps down from the deck is a sand garden where offerings are placed daily at a Balinese temple tucked under the canopy of a sacred banang-banang tree; shaded beneath its bowers is an antique daybed and a few paces away a gate set in the low dry-stone boundary wall leads directly onto the beach.

Location
Villa Voyage commands prime position on a small, sandy cove in the south-west corner of Nusa Lembongan; other than Nusa Dua on mainland Bali, from where a string of lights sparkle across the sea at night, the nearest landfall is Australia! Voyage is part of a small, exclusive community comprising a handful of private villas along the beach and raised on the cliff. Next door is the Beach Club at Sandy Bay with it's charming, quiet, beachfront restaurant and brand, new spa, Glo. Across the bay is the spectacular rock formation of Devil's Tear, scene of crashing waves and plumes of white-tipped foam. A pleasant ten minute stroll along the cliff-top path - populated by pandan plants and the occasional cow - is Dream Beach with it's popular café and swimming beach; a fifteen minute walk in the other direction are the restaurants and bars of Mushroom Beach.

Activities
The villa and operations managers are happy to share a wealth of information about nearby places of interest, and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the villa manager about the local area, to gain interesting insights into some of the fascinating aspects of life on Nusa Lembongan.
In the meantime, here is a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within easy reach of the villa.
- Stroll along the beach and across the rocks to Devil's Tear, a craggy limestone outcrop on the southern tip of Sandy Bay; on a clear day you can see Bali's sacred mountain Gunung Agung looming in the distance behind Villa Voyage.
- Cruise the coastline in Villa Voyage's jukung, a colourfully painted outrigger fishing boat fitted out with designer cushions for decadent comfort. Visit deserted beaches such as Gamat Bay and Crystal Cove on the neighbouring island Nusa Penida, enjoy a spot of snorkelling (fins and masks provided); you may even get to see pods of dolphins frolicking alongside!
- Let Chef Windu prepare a ?Voyage Picnic? of fresh bread, charcuterie and salad, presented in traditional Tiffin boxes and accompanied by a bottle of wine cooled in a silver ice bucket.
- Head for Dream Beach, a 10-minute walk southwards along the cliff path, for a swim in a cove of shallow sloping sand, followed by lunch at Café Pandan, set on the cliff top above the beach.
- Head across the canary-yellow suspension bridge that links Nusa Lembongan with its small island neighbour, Nusa Ceningan; crossing the bridge - open to pedestrians and bikes only - is an adventure in itself, its narrow ironwood planks creating a racket and preparing you for the bone-shaking ride on the potholed roads the other side. There, visit deserted beaches and blue lagoons, and glimpse seaweed-harvesting island life unchanged over the centuries.
- Adrenaline junkies, visit Mahana Point on the tiny neighbouring island, Nusa Ceningan, and hurl yourself off the cliff top into the sea! Or order a cold Bintang beer from the café and watch the surfers cresting huge rollers below.
- Nusa Lembongan is a wonderful destination for divers! Let our manager book a few dives with Villa Voyage's recommended dive centre for the chance to spend time up close and personal with magnificent Manta rays at the eponymously named Manta Point on Nusa Penida or, from late July to November, Mola-Mola, huge oceanic sunfish. For the less experienced diver, there are easier flat reef and wall dives in the crystal clear waters around Nusa Lembongan.
- Take a leisurely cycle tour of the island on Villa Voyage's bicycles: visiting temples, mangroves, beaches and the villages Lembongan and Jungutbatu.
- Stroll into Mushroom Bay one evening and take a beach-edge table at Café Bali for a romantic dinner. Or stay much closer to home and pop next door to the Beach Club at Sandy Bay for an evening cocktail and barbecue of fresh fish and meats.
- Visit the Underground House in Lembongan Village, a labyrinth of caves excavated from the limestone rock by local farmer and priest Made Biasa using only a hammer, chisel - and 15 years patience and hard work.
- Climb the steps to Pura Puncak Sari, a sacred hilltop temple which commands fabulous views over the neighbouring islands and Bali's east coast.
- Nusa Lembongan's economic mainstay is seaweed farming: in the shallows of the west coast wrapping around the Ceningan Strait you'll see rectangular beds of seaweed forming an ordered underwater grid. The Euchema Cottomi, a species of ocean algae, is harvested, dried and exported for use in the world's medicine and cosmetics industries. Go visit a farm and then, in the privacy of Villa Voyage, enjoy a freshly harvested seaweed scrub at the hands of a skilled spa therapist.
Services included
Exclusive use of the whole villa and its listed staff, services and facilities, including a one time private jukung outrigger trip for 3 hours, Mushroom bay pick up and transfer on arrival and departure, Apple TV, unlimited WiFi and beachfront infinity pool.
Additional Notes
Families
The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily and independently, without worrying about disturbing other guests, is a real plus - and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.Villa Voyage is great for families. Children will love the oceanside pool, and the beach is beautiful for sand-play and rock-pool exploration (note that swimming is strongly discouraged as currents can be fierce). The flexibility of bedroom configuration allows privacy and independence for families (a baby cot can be provided) and there are plenty of activities on the island to keep kids of all ages well amused throughout the holiday.
The team of friendly staff at Villa Voyage will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).
Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for you - just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest; the chef can customise all meals to suit children's taste buds.
Dining
MenusGood food - and being effortlessly and well catered for - is key to a relaxing and rewarding holiday experience. Villa Voyage guests can enjoy delicious home-cooked food whenever - and wherever - they want. The chef can prepare everything from snacks and picnics to gourmet dinner parties for up to 24 people. His expertise covers international and Indonesian cuisine, Italian being a favourite, and his creative presentation is on a par with the finest restaurants in Bali. Guests may glance through a suggestion menu to whet their appetite: ginger and corn soup, three-colour pepper salad, chicken parmagiano and Grand Marnier soufflé, for example. Or Tom Kha Gai (spicy coconut and chicken soup) spring rolls with chilli sauce, grilled snapper with sambal and chips, and banana flambé.
Alternatively, the villa has a special arrangement with the neighbouring Beach Club at Sandy Bay and Café Bali on Mushroom Bay to provide home deliveries from their menus on request. Alcoholic drinks can also be delivered from the Beach Club bar.
The system
We recommend that guests meet with the chef at the start of their stay to chat about menus and preferred food. The chef is happy to put together menus, try out dishes, or even to cook alongside guests who are so inclined. It is also necessary to agree meals in advance (ideally 48 hours) to allow adequate time for provisioning, because nearly all the ingredients are specially ordered from the mainland and brought in by boat every morning. This also applies if the choice is to self-cater.
Food and beverage charges
The chef and staff are happy to arrange the purchase of all provisions (whether for preparation by the chef or at a guest's request), including wines, spirits, beer and soft drinks. We recommend that the chef is provided with a ?float' to start with. Receipts will be kept for reference daily or at the end of the stay, and a service charge of 30% applied to cover admin and transport.
Spa
On call for our guests is a team of well-trained massage and spa therapists who can provide various treatments on guest account within the comfort and privacy of Villa Voyage - in the shade of the pergola, by the pool, on the balcony or in the cool of the bedroom. Here's a sample of what you'll find on the menu:Balinese massage
Just the ticket for releasing tension accumulated before the vacation, Balinese massage incorporates gentle stretches, skin rolling and percussion strokes - techniques passed down through many generations - to stimulate the flow of oxygen and induce a profound state of relaxation.
Fresh seaweed scrub
Enjoy a 45-minute massage followed by a natural body scrub made from fresh local seaweed, Aloe Vera and sea salt to remove dead skin, then sink into a warm bath strewn with flowers. You'll emerge rejuvenated, rehydrated and glowing with health, ready to be served a cup of ginger tea.
Papaya body mask
After a 45-minute traditional massage, you'll be slathered with a body mask made of fresh papaya and peppermint oil then wrapped in a blanket and left to rest for a while. The treatment finished with a warm bath scented with flowers. This is a great treatment to calm sunburnt skin.
Manicure and pedicure
A flash of pink or crimson on well-groomed nails after a feel-good mani-pedi is the perfect foil for a tropical tan.
Transport
A luxury open-sided buggy with upholstered bench seats is available for sight-seeing trips (extra charge), as is the villa's traditional jukung boat, complete with snorkelling equipment (extra charge). Day trips to Bali can also be arranged using one of the reliable scheduled boat operators.Office : C/Quilla 8 03590 Altea - Alicante - Spain, (+34) 670 569 255 / (+34) 865 779 086
