Overview

Appropriately named after a bird of paradise, five-bedroomed Villa Cendrawasih presents the modern face of Balinese villas, combining cutting edge design with supreme comfort and the friendliest of staff. Imbued with contemporary sophistication, the villa perfectly reflects it's setting in Petitenget, a district renowned for hip beach clubs, world-class dining, funky boutiques and cosmopolitan edge. With uber-trendy W Resort right next door, Villa Cendrawasih is in great company.

Fresh, crisp interiors incorporate white walls and smooth creamy Palimanan stone floors, accented by warm honey-hued timber, modern impressionist artwork, richly textured furnishings and a smattering of Indonesian ethnic artefacts. During the day the villa provides a chic sunny hideaway where adrenalin junkies can work out in the gym, or swim laps in the 18-metre pool, and those in search of more idle pursuits can indulge in deluxe in-villa spa treatments, watch a movie on the 55-inch HD flat-screen TV, or laze on a sunbed amidst the frangipani trees. Sunsets are best enjoyed from the roof-top terrace with tantalising glimpses of rice paddies, glistening ocean and the island's towering volcanoes. In the evenings hurricane lanterns softly illuminate the pathways, and a candlelit grand dining table begs for elaborate dinner parties prepared by our talented chef and served by our gracious butlers.

For those who manage to tear themselves away from the villa's soothing environs, a garden door opens onto a secret passageway that emerges on a wide sandy ocean beach (make sure to swim between the flags). Here, casual beach side warungs (restaurants) nestle between famous beach clubs, Mozaic, Potato Head and the glitzy bars and restaurants of W Resort. Jalan Petitenget with its plethora of home stores, bars and restaurants is just one kilometre from the villa, easily reached courtesy of the villa's complimentary car and driver.

Accommodation

Occupying a square parcel of land, L-shaped Villa Cendrawasih wraps around the swimming pool and garden. The main building is spread over two floors, with entrance foyer, kitchen, guest bedroom, lounge/dining area and TV room (which doubles as the fifth bedroom) on the ground floor, and three bedrooms and a roof terrace on the top floor. Set on the top floor, this large master bedroom has direct access to the roof terrace, with king-size bed, wood desk and plump sofa. Modern art painted in hues of copper, silver and gold adorns the walls. The walk-through dressing room is flanked by large mirrors and leads to a sleek spacious bathroom of dark grey stone with wood fittings, large walk-in rain shower and a freestanding bathtub.

Guest bedroom one

This upstairs bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed convertible to twins, sofa, walk-in wardrobe and desk overlooking the pool. Evocative Balinese ceremonial photos decorate the walls. The brightly lit bathroom has twin basins, a large walk-in rain shower, bathtub, and two baroque-style chairs and table.

Guest bedroom two

Opening onto the upstairs deck with views of the pool and garden, this room has a king-size bed convertible to twins and an easy chair for lounging. Portraits of Buddhist monks grace the walls. Guest bedroom three

This spacious guest bedroom is on the ground floor to the side of the entrance foyer. Opening directly onto the garden, the room boasts a private sitting area on its terrace and is furnished with king-size bed and sofa. Traditional wooden Balinese statues serve as decoration. The bathroom has grey stone floors, his and hers vanities, a large walk-in rain shower and freestanding bathtub.

Guest bedroom four/TV room

Next to the sitting area, sliding doors open to a TV room which can be easily set up as a fifth bedroom. It is furnished with a large, comfortable sofa bed that converts to either a king-size bed or twin beds, and has an adjoining bathroom fitted with a walk-in rain shower.

Living & Dining Areas

Handsome wooden doors open onto the villa's bright entrance foyer, overlooking a walled garden edged with a profusion of pink frangipani trees grafted with white orchids. Separating the garden and the living room is an 18-metre pool (including shallow wading pool at one end) and sun deck lined with six loungers shaded by sunbrellas.

The air-conditioned living and dining area lies to the left of the foyer. Glass doors can be folded right back for a semi-outdoor living experience and instant access to the pool. A long dining table seats 10, while a sideboard is embellished with elaborate silver candlestick holders and a silver-framed mirror. The contemporary living area is furnished with teak sofas and chairs upholstered in a stylish grey and set around a square coffee table. An iPod, dock and Bose speakers provide entertainment.

The attractive wood-panelled kitchen, separated by glass doors from the dining room, is fabulously equipped and includes a wine fridge, coffee machine and mini bar.

Villa Cendrawasih's TV room is equipped with an oversize sofa, 55-inch HD satellite-channel TV, Bose sound system and movie box with 250 movies. Bookshelves are stacked with a good assortment of novels. An adjacent guest bathroom is fitted with built-in wardrobe and a rain shower. This room can be converted to a fifth bedroom with choice of king-size or twin beds.

At the top of the stairs is a conveniently situated mini bar and a shady veranda leading to the spacious roof terrace encircled by pebbles, manicured lawn and flower boxes. Aqua daybeds and grey bean bags make a comfortable setting to enjoy expansive views that take in coconut palms, volcanoes and the sea sparkling between the trees.

The gym occupies its own glassed pavilion in the garden and is fitted with professional Life Fitness equipment, wall mirrors, weights, exercise bike, tread mill, yoga mats, TV and bathroom with shower. The adjoining terrace is topped with a large cushioned daybed.

Activities

Villa Cendrawasih's manager will have a wealth of information about nearby places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the local area. Many of them live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.

In the meantime, here is a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within reach of the villa.

  • You could eat out at a different restaurant in Seminyak every night - for months - and still not run out of options. Jalan Laksmana (also known as Jalan Oberoi and Jalan Kayu Aya) is Bali's fashionable ?Eat Street', offering plenty of high-end restaurants including Sarong and Teatro Gastroteque. La Lucciola Restaurant is great for sunset drinks, as is The Woo Bar at W. While Ku Dé Ta is still the place to see and be seen, two newer beachclubs, Cocoon and Potato

  • Head, are classy seaside alternatives. Then there's La Plancha, a rustic beach bar between Double Six and Gado Gado, which is very popular with good tapas, reasonably priced drinks, live music and DJ events. A short taxi ride will bring you to Sardine, Métis, Petitenget and Naughty Nuri's Batubelig, famous for barbecue ribs and wicked Martinis.

  • Fashionistas, trendies and shop-a-holics should hot-foot it down to Seminyak, Bali's most cosmopolitan enclave. Here, you can indulge for hours in the glut of stylish, chic boutiques selling designer ware and handcrafted jewellery. Exotic homewares are also a Balinese specialty, from gorgeous hand-crafted ceramics, to embroidered furnishings and all manner of ethnic curios and decorative pieces.

  • A nice sunset alternative is to head down to Echo Beach (8km) where a number of cafes offer good sunset views and cold beer, including the famous nightly barbecue at Echo Beach House. Hotel Tugu, a very stylish and eclectic boutique hotel a few minutes further down the coast was created by one of Indonesia's premier art collectors, and provides a range of atmospheric dining experiences. Next door to Tugu is the charming Kaki Lima restaurant, a lovely sunset spot with sweeping lawns making it a great place for kids to play. Or try the more casual cafe across the road; Old Man's for alfresco all day dining.

  • Play a round at the unbelievably scenic Nirwana Bali Golf Course. Bordered by ocean and rice fields and just down from Tanah Lot sea temple, no wonder this championship-standard course (designed by golf legend, Greg Norman) is frequently voted number one in Asia. The twelfth hole is one of the most photographed in the world, as it overlooks the famous Tanah Lot temple.

  • Explore the charming Tabanan regency, revealing terraced rice fields of emerald green, volcanic mountains and black-sand beaches dotted with fishing communities. Or head north to explore the volcanic lakes near the mountain town of Bedugul, including Lake Bratan with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu ? one of Bali's most important temples.

  • Acclaimed as the world's best, the atmospheric Elephant Safari Park in Taro (north of Ubud) provides a sanctuary for elephants rescued from Sumatra, with opportunities for trekking, hand feeding and photo taking. There is also a fascinating museum and an excellent restaurant in a beautiful tropical setting deep in the forests of Bali's hinterland.

  • Bali Treetop Adventure Park is near the town of Bedugal in northern central Bali (next to Lake Bratan). Five adventure circuits, with heights ranging from two to 20 metres, challenge all level and ages on suspended bridges, spider nets, Tarzan jumps and 12 flying foxes.

  • Covering 3.8 hectares of tropical parkland in Kuta, Waterbom Bali has 16 water slides (including The Climax with its 360 degree loop) to entertain the young and the young at heart. A great family day out, but go early to beat the crowds.

  • Explore the scenic rice-field landscape and rural villages by bicycle; a great way to get under the skin of the 'real' Bali. Stop off at a local warung (café) to sample some basic Balinese fare or cool off with a cold drink. A number of operators, including Bali Adventure tours offer ?downhill cycling' tours starting from the cool climes of Bali's mountainous hinterland.

  • Desa Seni at Berawa Beach is an eco-friendly village resort providing an authentic Indonesian experience through the exploration of culture, art and yoga. The resort offers a wide variety of yoga classes and also has its own holistic spa and restaurant serving gourmet organic food, most of which is grown in the resorts extensive gardens.

Additional Notes

Families
The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus ? and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.

Villa Cendrawasih is a great villa for families with children, who will love the lawns and swimming pool and easy access to the beach (make sure to always swim between the flags as currents can be strong). Those with toddlers may wish to request the instillation of a pool fence (charges apply).

The team of friendly staff will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).

Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for you ? just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest. Pancakes by the pool for breakfast? Chicken nuggets for tea? No problem. The chef can customise all meals to suit children?s taste buds.

Don?t worry about packing all that cumbersome kids? equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need, and anything we don?t have in-house (villa facilities include a baby cot, highchair and kids movies) we can hire on your behalf (click here to see list of available hire items).

And when the excitement of exploring the villa starts to wear off, check out our Things to do page ? there?s plenty in the area to keep all the family amused throughout the holiday.

Dining
Villa Cendrawasih?s chef is at your service to prepare daily breakfast, lunch and dinner. The villa offers an extensive priced menu of delicious meals featuring Asian and Western dishes to cater to all tastes, including an excellent selection of vegetarian and children?s options.

Our chef previously worked at La Lucciola ? one of Bali?s most celebrated Italian restaurants - and cooks up excellent pasta dishes, and is equally adept at blending an aromatic Thai curry and making traditional Balinese desserts such as dadar? pancakes filled with coconut and palm sugar. He can also grill up a feast of fresh seafood on the barbecue, prepare decadent set menus and poolside snacks and tailor meals to accommodate any special dietary requirements or specific requests.

A generous daily breakfast is included in your stay, with Western, healthy and Indonesian choices. Cendrawasih?s signature breakfast dishes include eggs Florentine, and eggs Benedict, and our butlers can prepare Italian-style coffees such as latte and cappuccino.

Spa and Gym
Fitness fanatics will love the air conditioned gym and the chance to work out on state-of-the-art equipment while enjoying lush garden views. Fitted with a good selection of professional Life Fitness equipment, including bench with extensive array of weights, exercise bike, treadmill and step platform. Yoga mats, wall-mounted TV and bathroom are also included for your convenience. An outdoor terrace has a cushioned day bed.

Fancy a body scrub or massage; just ask our staff to bring the spa to you! We can recommend deluxe treatments carried out in the privacy of the villa by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here?s a sample of what?s on the menu:

Massage

Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage by the pool or in the privacy of your room. Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body, you will feel totally relaxed in no time.

Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet that correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.

Body scrub
A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.

Manicure/pedicure
Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.
