Overview

Villa Ramadewa blends the best of contemporary and traditional Bali design elements in a prime champagne-popping Seminyak location moments from Petitenget Beach. Featured in many lifestyle magazines, this paean to laid-back tropical living was created by Bali-based Dutch architect Joost Van Grieken as a stunning holiday retreat for its sociable, style-conscious owner.

For a three-bedroom villa, the understated yet uber-chic Ramadewa is incomparable. Think spacious vaulted living pavilion, multiple dining areas, glamorous bedrooms, Philippe Starck bathrooms, and gorgeous statue-graced garden with 17-metre pool, antique balé, ornamental ponds and rooftop terrace. Add an air-conditioned gym, temperature-controlled wine room, dedicated music control room with centralised iPad-controlled Bose sound system, home office with iMac, Apple TVs, and iPods in every room. Enrich with an extraordinary collection of museum-worthy antiques and artefacts from Bali, Sumba, Nias and beyond. And finally animate these luxurious surroundings with turquoise-attired butlers on hand 24 hours a day, and an accomplished chef who can whip up feasts from an appealingly priced menu, served in air-conditioned cool, or candle-lit alfresco charm. It couldn't get any better!

Ramadewa is named after the legendary brother of Laksmana, both heroes of the revered Hindu epic the Ramayana. The villa rests within the exclusive Laksmana Estate in the heart of Seminyak, a short walk from Ku De Ta, La Lucciola, Potato Head and Bali's famed surf-and-sunset beaches. It's the perfect villa for fun-loving friends or a family who relish luxurious, hedonistic surroundings a heartbeat from Bali's most happening places.

Accommodation

Within Villa Ramadewa's large garden, two thatched pavilions face each other across the 17-metre swimming pool, sun deck and lawn. Furthest form the entrance is the two-storey bedroom pavilion, where a pair of guest suites open onto the lawn and, above, an open terrace separates the large master suite from an office/reading room. From here, a pond-lined colonnade ? with air-conditioned gym and rooftop terrace above ? leads to the professional kitchen and the living and dining pavilion. Behind, off a semi-open gallery that links to the villa's entrance, is a temperature-controlled wine room.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Master bedroom suite

Gazing down on the garden and pool, the king-of-the-castle master suite blends high-tech with home comforts. Under the vaulted roof, a king-size bed with top-quality bedlinen sits before a 50-inch screen with Apple TV, DVD player and Bose sound system. Kimonos and slippers await guests in the walk-through dressing room, leading to a glamorous bathroom with Philippe Starck fittings including the statement bathtub placed under a circular roof light. Both bedroom and bathroom are air-conditioned, and there's an iPod and dock in both areas.

Guest bedrooms

Opening onto the garden via floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, the two air-conditioned guest bedrooms are as high-spec as the master, with 32-inch TVs, DVD players, Bose sound systems, iPods, and mood lighting. Queen-size beds rest on teak floors and stylish armchairs and ottomans provide comfy reading corners. There are Philippe Starck fittings in the ensuite bathrooms, balanced with the option of Bali-style indoor/outdoor showers.

Living & Dining Areas

Designed for entertaining in style, the huge living and dining pavilion is Villa Ramadewa's social hub. Striking antique statues and artefacts surround deep-cushioned sofas and a dining table seating eight in supreme comfort. Below the vaulted alang-alang thatched ceiling, the white stone floor flows towards the ironwood deck beyond walls of sliding glass doors that can be closed for air-conditioned cool or flung open for breezy tropical living.

A magnificently carved antique joglo-style balé suspended over one end of the pool provides a magical setting for semi-alfresco dinners, with gourmet fare created in the state-of-the-art kitchen close by.

There's further entertaining space on the roof terrace ? a private suntrap with parasol-shaded loungers overlooking the pool. On the same level, above the colonnaded walkway, is an air-conditioned gym, where the exercise-inclined can work out to their heart's content while watching TV if they wish. Guests needing to keep a half-eye on business while on vacation can retreat to the Study where a computer sits on a massive desk oriented for the pool views.

Daybeds tucked into terraces and walkway recesses provide languid corners for siestas. Within the garden, couples can curl up in the huge circular all-weather wicker sofas under a cluster of fragrant Frangipani trees, or head for the many comfortably cushioned sun loungers on the ironwood deck lining the 17-metre swimming pool.

Activities

Villa Ramadewa's manager will have a wealth of information about nearby places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the local area. Many of them live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.

In the meantime, here is a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within reach of the villa.

  • It's possible to walk the grey sands of Seminyak's Petitenget beach all the way to Kuta in the south, or north to Canggu. The beach is more popular with locals than tourists (not safe for swimming in most sections), but is a great spot for building sandcastles or to watch the sunset as you sip a cocktail from one of the many beachside bars.
  • Pura Petitenget at the beachside off Jalan Petitenget is a compact, pretty Balinese temple, which is known for particularly spectacular beach-side ceremonies. There has been a temple here since at least the 16th century, and although this is not one of the key nine directional temples of Bali, it is an important link in the series of west coast temples between Pura Uluwatu and Pura Tanah Lot.
  • You could eat out at a different restaurant in Seminyak every night ? for months ? and still not run out of options. Jalan Laksmana (also known as Jalan Oberoi and Jalan Kayu Aya) is Bali's fashionable ?Eat Street', offering plenty of high-end restaurants including Sarong and Nutmegs at Hu'u Bar. La Lucciola Restaurant is great for sunset drinks, as is The Breeze at The Samaya. While Ku Dé Ta is still the place to see and be seen, Cocoon and Potato Head beach club, are classy seaside alternatives.
  • Fashionistas, trendies and shop-a-holics should hot-foot it down to Seminyak, Bali's most cosmopolitan enclave. Here, you can indulge for hours in the glut of stylish, chic boutiques.
  • Play a round at the unbelievably scenic Nirwana Bali Golf Course. Bordered by ocean and rice fields and just down from Tanah Lot sea temple, no wonder this championship-standard course (designed by golf legend, Greg Norman) is frequently voted number one in Asia.
  • Drive westwards to explore the charming Tabanan regency, revealing terraced rice fields of emerald green, volcanic mountains and black-sand beaches dotted with fishing communities. Or head north to explore the volcanic lakes near the mountain town of Bedugul, including Lake Bratan with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu ? one of Bali's most important temples.
  • Explore Bali's backroads, lakes, volcanoes, forests and beaches on the back of a Harley Davidson bike with Island Biker Tours. Full day Harley tours, customised tours or shorter joy rides can all be accommodated.
  • With its warm seas, amost year round season, relatively uncrowded beach and reef breaks and suitability for all levels of experience, Bali surfing is world renowned. Accessibility to the different surfing areas is also a big plus ? you can hop on a scooter and get from side of The Bukit to the other in 20 minutes, making sure you don't miss any of the action.

Services included

Exclusive use of the villa, its listed facilities and staff including full-time manager, chef, butlers and security, transfers to and from airport and daily breakfast.

Additional Notes

Families
The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus ? and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.

Villa Ramadewa is a great villa for families. The pool is bound to be popular, and parents can keep a watchful eye from the comfort of the living pavilion. The garden provides plenty of flat space to run around, and being able to walk out to the beach within minutes is a big plus.

The team of friendly staff at Ramadewa will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).

Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for you ? just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest. Banana pancakes by the pool for breakfast? Sandwiches in the balé for tea? No problem. The chef can customise all meals to suit children's taste buds.

Don't worry about packing all that cumbersome kids' equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need, and anything we don't have in-house, we can hire on your behalf

Dining
Good food, effortlessly provided and gracefully served, is such an important part of a relaxing holiday experience. Ramadewa's chef is skilled in the preparation of Indonesian, Asian and international cuisine ranging from poolside snacks to formal dinner parties. Breakfast is a gourmet occasion, with three different menus ? Western, Ramadewa Special and Archipelago Sunrise.

For lunch and dinner, there's an excellent and reasonably priced in-villa menu designed to cater to all tastes, with both a la carte and set menu options and a kids' menu. As Villa Ramadewa has a temperature-controlled wine room, guests can enjoy a good choice of wines to accompany meals, as well as cocktails and soft drinks. The kitchen team is also more than happy to tailor meals to accommodate any special dietary requirements. Breakfast, free-flow water, coffee and tea are complimentary throughout your stay.

Gym
Feel like working out in air-conditioned comfort? The rooftop gym is equipped with a Kettler treadmill, bike and cross trainer. Why not watch a film on the wall-mounted TV while you're working up a sweat, or enjoy the terrace and garden views through the floor-to-ceiling walls of glass.

Spa
Feel like a body scrub or massage? Just ask our staff to bring the spa to you! We can recommend deluxe treatments carried out in the privacy of your own villa by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here's a sample of what's on the menu:

Massage
Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage. Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body you will feel totally relaxed in no time.

Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.

Body scrub
A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.

Manicure/pedicure
Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.
