Overview
Welcome to Villa Kailasha, meaning Paradise of the Gods. We think you'll agree that this is an appropriate name for our much-loved, three-bedroom beachside retreat in Bali's fertile Tabanan regency. Here, we invite you to lose yourselves among tranquil ponds, well-spaced pavilions and a coconut-grove garden, enhanced by the rugged beauty of the windblown beach, and the constant sound of the breaking waves.
Elegantly designed with modern comforts and a dash of Dutch-colonial style, Villa Kailasha's vast living pavilion, grand dining pavilion and separate dining terrace all stand open to the gentle trade winds and dramatic ocean views. Hidden among the gardens to one side of the living pavilion is a two-bedroom guesthouse, while on the other side the master suite offers complete privacy with its own plunge pool for discreet dips during lazy afternoons or under clear, star-filled skies.
The huge garden rolls down to a dazzling 14-metre infinity-edged swimming pool bordered by a chequer board stone and grass terrace with a relaxation balé and a yoga deck to one side. The icing on the cake is the spectacular view of the ocean and the near-deserted, glistening, black-sand beach, a mere three-minute walk from the villa gates.
Villa Kailasha an ideal holiday destination for a family or a small group of friends, while its velvety lawns dotted with palms and fragrant flowering trees are perfect for weddings, parties, and celebrations for up to 200 guests, against the awesome ocean backdrop. Our team of polite, thoughtful staff, including an in-house cook and experienced villa manager, are on hand to prepare meals and look after your every need, leaving you free to rest, relax and perhaps raise your glass to another legendary Bali sunset.
Accommodation
Villa Kailasha is entered via a porte cochere from a spacious private parking area. Separate open-sided living and dining pavilions look out over water features, paved pathways and an immaculate lawn. Hidden in the gardens to the left of the living pavilion, the single-storey guesthouse presents two almost-identical bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. To the far right of the villa grounds, the secluded single-storey master suite comprises a bedroom, bathroom, dressing areas, and private plunge pool with sun deck and balé pavilion. The 14-metre infinity-edge swimming pool, poolside balé and yoga deck, are positioned on the garden's seaward side to maximise the ocean view.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
Master Suite
Villa Kailasha's spacious air-conditioned master suite is furnished with a king-size bed, comfortable armchairs and a cushioned window seat, and equipped with a satellite-channel TV. Guests will relish the garden, pool and ocean views, which are also reflected perfectly in a wide mirror above the bed. A huge ensuite bathroom with walk-in rain shower and bathtub looks into a private garden with additional outdoor shower. Glass doors lead from the vanity area to a plunge pool within a private garden courtyard, complete with thatched balé pavilion furnished with a table and two chairs.
Guesthouses
A pair of almost-identical air-conditioned guest suites ? set well away from the other buildings and positioned within a private, semi-walled courtyard around an ornamental pond ? offer a peaceful retreat for a family or two couples. Both suites revel in an abundance of space, each accommodating a bedroom with a king-size bed and satellite TV, and ensuite bathrooms with walk-in rain showers and bathtubs alongside picture windows that frame a private flower-filled garden.
Living & Dining Areas
Presiding over the graceful gardens, Villa Kailasha's splendid living pavilion is so big that it provides a choice of three discrete sitting areas before extending onto a wide, partially-sheltered stone terrace fringed by ponds. From here, you can survey the pool and ocean, enjoy alfresco meals at a teakwood table for eight on the terrace, or gather to watch movies on the large flat-screen TV.
A small guest kitchen is tucked away adjacent to the living pavilion. It is equipped with an oven and gas hob, a large fridge, a microwave, and a coffee machine. The villa's main kitchen is located behind the villa and is fully fitted with a professional range and everything that the cook needs to prepare delicious meals and beverages for guests.
More soft breezes and cool garden views set the tone in the dedicated dining pavilion, which rests in a courtyard and is linked to the main living pavilion by a short pathway. This is the perfect venue for a convivial lunch that could segue effortlessly into a more formal dinner for 10. Here, a simple open-sided design, a soaring roof and a neutral aesthetic ensures that nothing detracts from the tropical surroundings, the food, and one's companions.
The expansive garden provides an astonishing setting for a wedding, showcasing beautifully manicured lawns dotted with coconut palms and flowering frangipanis. On the far side, positioned well away from the house and bordered by a grass-and-paving-stone chequerboard terrace, is the infinity-edge swimming pool, and next to this is a lazy, breezy gazebo ? the obvious spot for devouring a book, enjoying afternoon cocktails at the table, or taking a snooze on the deep mattress. And what better place could there be for a relaxing massage or a rousing yoga session than the pool-gazebo's upper deck, which embraces an awe-inspiring picture of the sunsets and ocean waves.

Location
Villa Kailasha is situated a mere three-minute-stroll from Kelating Beach with its sparkling black sands and sweeping coastline views. The neighbourhood is the small Balinese village of Dukuh, which is bordered by rice fields for almost as far as the eye can see. A long way out of town, there are no restaurants, bars or shops here apart from the five-star Alila Villas Soori (300m) with its fine-dining restaurant and alfresco bar serving beachfront cocktails - especially good at sunset. The lonely beach and river estuary offers beautiful walks, and local temple ceremonies are a common sight; this stretch of coastline is popular with surfers but there are strong rip currents and no lifeguards so it is unsafe for swimming.

Activities
Your villa manager, will have a wealth of information about nearby places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the local area. Invariably many of them will live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.
- Hiking and trekking in Bali's volcanic hinterlands gives visitors the opportunity to relish some spectacular views; the 2276-metre Mount Batukau is the island's second highest peak, and the area around this mountain boasts the greatest biological diversity in Bali. Here, local guides lead visitors on anything from gentle hikes through the food forests and jungle, to challenging treks.
- Visit the breathtaking panorama of the Jatiluwih rice terraces (36km), which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 for its preservation of traditional Balinese farming techniques. At a height of 850 metres above sea level, the view here is one of the finest imaginable.
- Horse riding can be arranged at a stables located at the village of Yeh Gangga (5km). The scenery is lovely in this peaceful village, where rice farming, fishing and sea salt harvesting are the main activities. One of the rides offers an opportunity to swim in the sea with the horses.
- Enjoy a game of golf on the championship standard Nirwana Bali Golf Course (15km), voted number one golf course in Asia. This spectacular course is bordered by ocean and rice fields, and the 12th hole is one of the most photographed in the world because it overlooks the famous Tanah Lot sea temple - one of the island's most astonishing temples, perched on a craggy wave-lashed rock just at the edge of the sparkling black shoreline.
- Discover the charming Tabanan regency with its terraced rice fields of emerald green, volcanic mountains and black-sand beaches dotted with fishing communities. Or head northeast to explore the volcanic lakes near the mountain town of Bedugul, including Lake Bratan with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu - one of Balis most important temples.
- Explore Bali on the back of a Harley Davidson bike with Island Biker Tours. Full day Harley tours, customised tours or shorter joy rides can all be accommodated.
- With its warm seas, an almost year round season, relatively uncrowded beach and reef breaks, and suitability for all levels of experience, Bali surfing is world renowned, and at Villa Kailasha the ocean is right on your doorstep. This stretch of coast, however, is only recommended for experienced surfers.
- There are many ancient temples in the environs including Pura Luhur Batukau, the stone coconut temple (29km) near the peak of Mount Batukau, (accessible by car), which venerates the deities of mountains and lakes. In addition, two royal palaces are within easy reach of Villa Kailasha: Puri Gede and Puri Anyar at the royal town of Krambitan (5km).
- Make a pilgrimage to sacred Pura Tanah Lot (15km), one of Bali's greatest, and most photographed, sea temples. Perched high on a craggy, wave-lashed rock, this ancient temple is best savoured at sunset (although less busy during the day). If the tide is low, be sure to receive a blessing from the Hindu Priests and have a look at the holy snake.

Additional Notes
Families
The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus ? and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too. Kids will love the wide open spaces at Villa Kailasha, however toddlers will need to be carefully supervised around the swimming pool, plunge pool and fish ponds. The team of friendly staff at Villa Kailasha will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).
Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for you ? just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest. The cook can customise all meals to suit children's taste buds.
And don't worry about packing all that cumbersome kids' equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need; anything we don't have in-house we can hire on your behalf
Dining
Villa Kailasha offers a dining service and menu with a wonderful array of international and local dishes. Many Western meals are available, but we recommend you to try some of the cook's Indonesian and Balinese dishes for a true cultural experience. Should you have a request for a dish not on the menu, or a special dietary requirement, please feel free to ask the chef, who will strive to comply with all of your wishes. While the villa has a fully equipped kitchen for food preparation, it is not a restaurant and cannot support each individual guest ordering different foods for same dining periods. If you have a large group it is advisable that the group dines on the same dish or that you order several dishes to be shared.
Food and beverage items are charged based on grocery cost system. Guests will be requested to provide a cash float in advance, and the staff will do the shopping for you and keep the receipts for your reference. In view of Villa Kailasha's remote location, please allow at least one day's notice, and feel free to discuss any requirements with the cook, butler or villa manager.
Spa & Yoga
SpaFeel like a body scrub or massage? Just ask our staff to bring the spa to you! We can recommend deluxe treatments carried out in the privacy of your room or the elevated poolside pavilion by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here's a sample of what's on the menu:
Balinese massage
Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage. Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body, you will feel totally relaxed in no time.
Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.
Body scrub
A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.
Manicure/pedicure
Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.
Yoga
Villa Kailasha has a dedicated yoga space on the open-sided upper floor of the poolside pavilion, offering a fabulous view of the sea. Private yoga sessions can be arranged here under the guidance of a professional yoga teacher. Please speak to the villa manager if you wish to organise this.Weddings
The extensive and stunningly manicured lawns and garden, combined with the spacious living pavilion, the alfresco terrace, and the glorious sea view, make Villa Kailasha an ideal tropical setting for romantic weddings and other special celebrations, complete with entertainment and Balinese dance performances. We can recommend expert event organisers, florists, decorators, entertainers, and professional outside caterers who have the world-class expertise to prepare a sumptuous feast at the villa, so that you can focus on relaxing and celebrating with your guests.
