Overview

Welcome to Bulan Madu, one of Bali?s most romantic one-bedroom villas (Bulan Madu actually means honeymoon), built with your privacy, seclusion and comfort first and foremost in mind. What dreamier place has there ever been in the lovers? lexicon of myth and fantasy?

Accommodation

In choosing the villa's location and design we pulled out all the stops, while at the same time providing you with the first class service and amenities you would expect from a five-star villa. Our staff are on hand to cook, clean and drive for you when needed, but they are also masters of discretion thus allowing you to be as free as you like to enjoy the sea breezes and views from your eagle's eyrie. Rest assured, no one can see in to your hilltop perch apart from the occasional seabird that flies overhead.

In the bedroom, which opens widely onto the private pool and gardens, a king-size bed entices with sheer green and gold drapes. Stepping out of the bedroom over stones bridging a fishpond, you enter the open-sided bathroom, vast in its scope and stunning in its simplicity, with a sunken, petal-filled soaking tub, washbasin and rain shower.

A simple living area offers respite from the sun, while a generous lawn and twin sun loungers sit shaded by frangipani trees next to the swimming pool. Take a dip, rest against the infinity edge, and look across the treetops towards the sunset and the Indian Ocean. If you tire of all this then the soft-cushioned balé bengong (daydreaming pavilion) in the garden is the ideal place to contentedly doze the afternoon away.

Bulan Madu can be rented independently or in conjunction with the four-bedroom Villa Indah Manis next door.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Chambre 1
In Bulan Madu's air-conditioned and fan-cooled bedroom a king-size bed is swathed in golden and green fabric below high, thatched ceilings. The regal semi-open-air (but very private) ensuite bathroom is crafted in cream-coloured stone, featuring a sunken two-person tub and a rain shower, bordered by fishponds, water features and garden views.

Living & Dining Areas

The lounge space is open to the back and front, and has magnificent views out over the ocean; it is furnished with three circular armchairs and equipped with a mini bar and iPod docking station. The dining table normally resides on the pool terrace but can easily be moved into the living area should the weather be inclement.

Location

Villa Bulan Madu is located far from the madding crowd, a couple of kilometres from the ocean in a rural area of Bali's beautiful and rugged Bukit Peninsula. Amenities within walking distance of the villa are limited to the tiny village of Pecatu, thus the services of a car and driver are essential for guests wishing to explore. Once in the car, however, some of Bali's best beaches are on your doorstep, as are some great restaurants, cultural activities, shops, cafes and golf courses.

  • Padang Padang Beach 2km
  • New Kuta Golf Course 7km
  • Nammos Beach Club at Karma Kandara 7km
  • Uluwatu Temple 7km
  • Jimbaran Bay 17km
  • Denpasar International Airport 22km

Activities

Your villa manager will have a wealth of information about nearby place of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the local area. Invariably many of them will live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.

In the meantime, here's a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within reach of Indah Manis and Bulan Madu.

  • At Jenggala Keramic in Jimbaran, visitors can browse and buy from a vast range of handcrafted ceramics and glassware. Jenggala also runs ?Make and Paint a Pot' sessions where ?Children' of all ages are encouraged to get creative.

  • New Kuta Golf course is 7km away and it offers some fantastic golfing with some of the most dramatic golf course scenery in the world.

  • Soar above the spectacular southern coastline of the Bukit Peninsula on a Paraglider. Paragliding courses and solo flying for the experienced are available as well as tandem flights in the safe hands of experienced instructors. The training centre is at Timbis Beach on the south coast of The Bukit.

  • Perched on a cliff 70m above the roaring Indian Ocean, Uluwatu Temple (Pura Uluwatu) is one of Bali's nine key directional temples. Facing west and with steep headlands on either side creating an unbelievably dramatic setting, sunsets over Uluwatu are a sight not to be missed.

  • Nusa Dua beach is without doubt one of the cleanest and longest in southern Bali. Here, as well as enjoying a swim in the calm reef-protected water, you can wind surf, surf, kayak, jet ski and para-sail. Quicksilver run daily tours to Nusa Penida island (world-class diving destination and home of the fabulous mola-mola sunfish) from nearby too.

  • For shopping, visit Bali Collection, located within the Nusa Dua tourist enclave. The mall is a multi-faceted complex of retail department stores, shops, an art market, and local and international restaurants and bars. If you would prefer to barter for some cheap clothing, check out Nusa Dua's two tourist markets, one is situated on Jalan Pantai Mengiat (near Mengiat Beach) and the other is close to Melia Bali Resort.

  • A seafood feast at Jimbaran is a must for every holiday in Bali - dozens of seafood warung (cafés) line this west-facing beach, perfect for a sunset dinner. Fine dining options are available at most of the big resort hotels in this area; notably Sundara at Four Seasons in Jimbaran, the lunch menu here offers wood-fired pizza, sushi and Balinese delights, while the dinner menu presents gourmet steak and seafood selections.

  • Uluwatu is the place for surfing enthusiasts. Most of the breaks here are only suitable for advanced or expert surfers - the waves are big here. Particular highlights are Uluwatu, Dreamland, Padang-Padang, Bingin/Impossibles and Suluban.

Additional Notes

Families

The family-friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus - and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.

Our team of friendly staff at Villa Bulan Madu will make youngsters feel as welcome as adults, they are very happy to assist with children during the daytime when parents are present, and having these willing helpers on hand will give you the flexibility to do your own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).

Although Bulan Madu is a great villa for families, toddlers will need to be carefully supervised around the swimming pool and ponds. Older kids will love the petanque court, the pool table and the darts board, and if it happens to be a rainy day, don?t despair, as the villa is well equipped with children's DVDs and numerous board games, while the entertainment area provides plenty of space for kids to play.

Our fully equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy young eaters or babies with ease, but the staff will also be very happy to do this for you - just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or the cooks and they will take care of the rest. Don't worry about packing all that cumbersome kids' equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need, and anything we don?t have in-house (villa facilities include a baby cot and highchair) can be hired on your behalf.

And when the excitement of exploring the villa starts to wear off, check out our Things to do page; there's plenty in the area to keep all the family amused throughout the holiday.

Dining
You are most welcome to take advantage of the villa's fully-equipped kitchen but, bearing in mind that you're on holiday, we invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy some delicious home-cooked meals prepared by the villa's very accomplished in-house chef and assistant cook.

The menu

You will be offered a suggestion menu to make ordering easier, and you can also chat with the chef if there are other specific dishes that your group would like to try. The kitchen staff are excellent, but we're sure you will appreciate that they do not have the capacity of a hotel or restaurant, so meals are generally served ?family style', where everyone shares dishes, as opposed to ordering individually. Food intolerances, special diets and children's meals can all be catered for, and the chef will, of course, adjust the seasoning of dishes to suit different palates. Villa Indah Manis has a barbecue on site, so we highly recommend the local seafood feast featuring the catch of the day from Jimbaran Bay. Beers, wines and spirits can be provided upon request. All beverages are charged per drink, except for wine, which is charged by the bottle.

The system

The food and beverage service is operated on a cash basis. Staff will request a cash float/deposit when you arrive to cover all your in-villa food and drinks, and ask for top-ups every few days, or when necessary. To allow the kitchen staff time to shop and prepare, it's necessary to order in advance ? either the evening before (for special requests) or at breakfast time each day. Grocery shopping will be done by the staff at local markets, supermarkets and delis. All food and beverage provisions are charged at the cost of the ingredients plus a 20% surcharge. Receipts will be kept and presented either on a daily or end-of-stay basis, whichever you prefer.

Gym & Spa
Gym

A small gym is located downstairs beneath the swimming pool and is equipped with an exercise bike, a step trainer, dumbbells and a full length wall mirror. The room is air-conditioned so you can cross train to your heart's content. Alternatively, for a gentler form of exercise, you can do some yoga stretches. In-villa private yoga sessions can also be arranged ? please speak with the villa manager.

Spa

The spa is equipped with two massage beds, a back and shoulder massage chair (guests are offered a complimentary 30-minute back and shoulder massage [for four people] upon arrival), a chair and washbasin designed for the Indonesian 'creambath' - a special treatment for the hair, a jacuzzi, a bathtub, toilet and shower. Deluxe treatments can be carried out by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here?s a sample of what's on the menu:

Balinese massage
Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage. Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body you will feel totally relaxed in no time.

Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.

Body scrub
A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.

Manicure/Pedicure
Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.
