Thinks to do in Santorini:

Visit the unique village of Oia
The idyllic village of Oia with its whitewashed houses and blue shutters is one of the most photographed places in Greece (and probably on earth!). Situated on top of an impressive cliff, it boasts spectacular views over the volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni.
Wander among the maze of narrow streets with its blue domed churches and numerous art galleries and tavernas. Watching the sunset from Oia is considered one of the most magical moments you can have in your life?

Watch the sunset from Profitis Ilias hill top
Oia is said to have some of the most beautiful sunsets on earth, but as a matter of fact there are many spots on the island to take in the stunning pink and gold rays as the sun drops into the sea. The village of Imerovigli with its panoramic views is one, as is Vlichada beach with its volcanic scenery. We prefer to watch the sunset from a different spot. This spot is on the top of a hill on a place where a monastery exists.
It is called Profitis Ilias Monastery and it's the highest point on the island.

Try local food
The most delicious and unique products you must try when you are in Santorini:

Santorini Cherry Tomatoes
Why you should try them: this is a very unique variety of cherry tomatoes and it is possibly the most famous local product of Santorini. They have hard skin and really rich and juicy body with unique aromas and earthy flavours since they grow up on the volcanic soils of the island.

Santorini Fava Beans
Why you should try them: this is probably the most famous dish of Santorini! Nothing fancy here?it is a very simple dish that has its origins in Ancient Greece. This kind of peas are only cultivated in Santorini and Anafi, so make sure you try them out! Surprisingly enough, archaeological excavations have revealed grains of fava from the ancient site of Akrotiri, on the southern side of Santorini, which shows that this product is cultivated on the island for about 3,500 years. Fava beaches are sowed in December and harvested in June.

Tomato-keftedes (tomato-balls)
Why you should try them: Tomatokeftedes (or basically tomato-balls) are deep fried Santorini cherry tomatoes mixed with herbs, onions or whatever each family run restaurant feels like putting in the mix. Just yummy!

Fish and Seafood
Why you should try it: Mediterranean sea. Crystal clear waters. Amazing variations. Fresh herbs from the island. Need to say more? Please make yourself a favour and try every variation of seafood you can find in any restaurant or small taverna you go. Most of the times you would be able to see (and select) the fresh fish you want before it's cooked. Try the grilled octopus with olive oil and vinegar, try the seafood pasta or any type of fish on the grill! you can thank us anytime?

White Santorini Eggplants
Why you should try them: these look a bit weird but they are actually quite rare and are so sweet that will make you ask for more!

Melitinia
Why you should try them: these are made of hand-prepared pasty stuffed with local soft cheese called "anthotyro" or "myzithra". They are only made in Santorini and they are a delicious desert!

Visit one of Santorini's Amazing Wineries for the most unique wine tasting experience of your life.
Wine production in Santorini dates back to Roman times and it is still one of the main local products of the island.

  •  Most famous Santorini Winery: Santowines Winery (visit this one if you don?t have much time on the island).
  •  Area with the most wineries: around Pyrgos and Emporeio village.
  •  Best Wine Varieties to try in Santorini: Assyrtiko (white) and Mavrotragano (red).
Visit the amazing village of Pyrgos
Pyrgos is a lovely village (less touristic), with myriads of churches and small white paved streets and historic architecture galore.  It also offers some amazing views of the island and some secret spots to enjoy the sunset.

Visit Akrotiri archaeological site and get lost in time?
Soak up some history at the site of Akrotiri, a once-buried Minoan city that has recently undergone extensive reconstruction work. Wander the streets and squares of this prehistoric city that 30,000 people once called home and is often referred to as the "Pompeii of the Aegean."

Visit Some of the Amazing Castles and Fortresses of Santorini!
Santorini has some really unique castle and fortresses that are always open to public.
  • Kasteli (Castle) of Pyrgos
  • Skaros Rock : The Fortress
  • Kasteli (Castle) of Agios Nikolaos : Oia
  • Kasteli (Castle) of Akrotiri : La Ponta
  • Tower of Nimborio (Emporio)
Hike the trail between Oia and Fira
This one can easily be the highlight of your trip to Santorini. It's roughly a 2.5-3 hours hiking trail which can be a bit steep at some points but it's definitely worthwhile doing as it will reward you with some of the best views of the island.
Make sure you do the hiking early morning or late in the afternoon as in the summer it could be super hot and the sun may easily exhaust you.

Go sailing and diving (you may discover Atlantis!)
Take to the water and view the island from a different perspective. Santorini is known for its sailing, whether you choose to charter a yacht or opt for a catamaran tour. Scuba diving is also taking off here, and you'll certainly get a unique view of the volcanic landscape from "under the surface".

Additional Notes

Best Beaches of Santorini
Red Beach
Red Beach is arguably the most famous and unique beach in Santorini. It's pretty obvious why it is called "The Red Beach".
The volcanic lava red rocks, pebbles and red sand that surround crystal clear waters, create an amazing scenery that you won't find anywhere in the world.
This is the perfect place for snorkeling !

Perissa / Perivolos Beach (aka "black beach")
Perissa and Perivolos (Agios Georgios)  is basically the same long beach.
Perissa is basically the end of the long black sand beach of Perivolos. It's undoubtedly the busiest and the most organised beach of Santorini.
Crystal clear waters, black pebbles, amazing atmosphere, relaxing couches, long music and sun-beds.

Perivolos is also the place to be if you want to listen live some famous DJs from all over the world, it's the beach to play beach volleyball and definitely the place to drink some amazing cocktails by the beach.
In Perivolos you can also do all the wet-sports you can imagine (jet ski, sea-ski, sea-bananas etc). These are also the beaches where you will find the most locals, Greek tourists and even celebrities hanging out.

Vlychada Beach (aka "White Beach")
Vlychada beach is a unique landscape with massive white rocks and a really relaxing atmosphere.
You won't find any noisy beach bars or wet sports here though. The beach itself is organised with umbrellas and sun-beds.
At the end of the beach you will notice the chimneys of an old factory (a really good spot for photography lovers'set these DSLRs on fire!)

Kamari Beach (a.k.a Black Beach no.2 !)
Crystal blue waters of Kamari beach.
The amazing moon landscape of Vlychada beach
Kamari is one of the most famous and easily accessible beaches of Santorini. It is again a pretty long beach close to the airport. It is very well organised and pretty touristic. You will find all sorts of beach bars, tavernas, restaurants and cafes.

Koloumbos Beach (or Columbos Beach or Kolumbo Beach)
Koloumbos Beach is one of the longest, most seclusive and quiet beaches in Santorini. It is also the only nudist friendly beach in Santorini , where you can literally have a big part of the beach by yourself.
So, it's gonna be you, the rocks, the black pebbles and the amazing blue water, as not many people actually swim at Koloumbos beach.

Katharos Beach
Katharos Beach is a small narrow beach with black and white pebbles under some massive white volcanic rocks. It's a beach with wild beauty and raw charm.

Monolithos Beach
Monolithos is again a very long and wide beach which is pretty close to the airport.
It is a very kids and family-friendly beach with sunbeds and umbrellas and with a few tavernas and restaurants mainly with fresh fish. The sand at Monolithos beach is possibly the best on the island!
Monolithos is great for water sports. These guys here offer the best kite-surfing on the island.

Ammoudi Bay
Ammoudi is the small bay below Oia (where the donkeys path is) but it is not really a beach. Ammoudi is more like an area of volcanic rocks by the sea.
Hands down this is the best swimming location in Santorini and the most crystal clear waters you will ever see in your life!
But after swimming you will be super hungry so your best bet would be Katina's Fish Taverna . The best seafood and fish of the island!
