Accommodation

In winter of course it's more than likely you'll be spending plenty of time on the mountain, but when you get back to The Lodge, there's still plenty to do! Pull off those restrictive ski boots and relax in the lounge in front of a roaring fire curled up on a comfy sofa. Or if your muscles ache, take a dip in the indoor heated pool, or warm yourself up in the indoor or outdoor Jacuzzis.

Later on, tuck in to some of the exquisite dishes from our kitchen ? order what you want, or let us surprise you! You can even watch our chefs at work and pick up some tips while you try a few glasses of red or white from our wine cellar. Once a week you can listen or party to live music from one of our talented local musicians.

The Lodge also has a fully equipped gym, a steam room and a party area. You can shoot some pool or dance the night away all underneath a twinkling disco ball.

If you want to take it easy we can pop on a film for you and your friends or family on the large plasma screen (we've got a great selection of DVDs) while you enjoy a few drinks from the bar.

There's even a private ice rink, so if you think your child could be a candidate to join the stars in "Dancing on Ice", why don't you send them for a twirl?

Location

The Lodge is perched high in the Swiss Alps in a forested area just a five minute walk from the town of Verbier, and only 250m from the main lift station. If in winter you find walking in ski boots too difficult, we'll be happy to drop you off, and you can ski straight back home as The Lodge is on a returning ski run. Verbier is 51 miles, or 82 kilometres east of Geneva as the crow flies, but the mountains and Lake Geneva tend to get in the way if you're driving!

Activities

One of the top ski resorts in the world, Verbier is as famous for its glamorous nightlife as it is for its vast off-piste terrain and 400km of piste skiing.

Your villa manager will have a wealth of information about places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the area too. Most will live nearby and can give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of local life...

The area surrounding The Lodge offers numerous opportunities for exploration and leisure, ski experience, paragliding, ballooning, sky diving...

Winter mountain
For the avid skier or snowboarder Verbier is paradise. There are five resorts spread across four valleys, all of which are tied into one single lift pass, offering you one of the largest skiable areas in the Alps ? for all levels of skiers.

The ski area around Verbier includes 195km of marked pistes of all standards and of every exposure divided over the sectors of Les Ruinettes, Les Attelas, Savoleyres, Bruson and within the resort. The artificial snow-making system of Les Attelas at 2,730m all the way down to Verbier at 1,500m enables not only a descent directly into The Lodge, but an extended ski season from November right up until the end of April. You can take advantage of the 38 lifts which are amongst the most modern in the world, including the Funispace, a 30 person enclosed cable car and a 125 person jumbo from Tortin to Gentianes.

  • Beginners
Two nursery slopes lie in the centre of the resort, ideal for starting out or getting back into the swing of things if you haven't been skiing for a while. Les Esserts has 1 button lift and 2 magic carpets, and is situated immediately next to a restaurant with a terrace. This is a prime site for beginners with families, with access to the longest magic carpet in Switzerland. Le Rouge has a T-bar to enable more confident beginners after their first stage on Les Esserts to attempt a more advanced slope. When you are ready to venture up the mountain, the areas of Savoleyres, Lac des Vaux and La Chaux offer a number of easy blue runs, to moderate red runs.

  • Intermediate
There are hundreds of more challenging red and black runs which make up the Four Valleys, and it is possible to do a day trip exploring them all. These runs are serviced by the main Médran lift, only a short walk or drive from The Lodge, rising to Les Ruinettes, where the 'Funispace' to Attelas and Lac des Vaux and the 'La Chaux Express' to La Chaux await you. There are some Verbier classics here, and the ski area really opens up, leading you from La Chaux to Col des Gentianes and from Lac des Vaux into Chassoure ? Tortin and beyond.

  • Advanced
Verbier is renowned for having some of the best off-piste and itinerary runs around so there will be plenty to keep the more adventurous skiers amused. The peak of Mont Fort in the middle of the range, at an altitude of 3,330m, is the tallest in the Four Valleys. You can also discover mountains of Mt Gele, with itinerary only skiing, the legendary backside of Mont Fort ? 'stairway to heaven', Creblet and Bec de Rosses, where Verbier hosts the annual 'Freeride World Tour' stage of the pro-skiing competition.

  • Heli-Skiing
For the advanced skiers in your party we can organise heli-skiing trips. This is definitely a way to get the adrenaline pumping and get away from the crowds! Your guide will meet you on the morning at The Lodge and discuss the plan and route. It could be a descent all the way from the top of Petit Combin to Fionnay, covering over 2,400m of vertical, or a couple of drops on the Glacier de Trient.

More winter Activities
If skiing isn't your thing or you'd just like to try something different, you can go cross country on shoe shoes, or see Verbier from the air with a tandem paraglide.

  • Snow shoeing
If you can walk, you can go snowshoeing. It's easy to do, it doesn't require a lot of special techniques, and the fun begins as soon as you put the snowshoes on! You can choose between a casual hike through the woods or a steep climb up the mountain. A great option is to walk up to lunch where the skiers have skied to, and you can walk to on snow shoes, getting you some fresh mountain air, and catching up on the morning news. It also allows you to go places where skiers can't!

  • Paragliding
Why not take to the sky and see the spectacular sites of The Matterhorn in one direction and Mont Blanc in the other? Take a tandem flight where you can sit back and enjoy the experience.

  • Sledging
It's not just for kids! Although you may need the fearlessness of an 8 year old if you're going to give the 10km run in Savoleyres a go! Of all the activities in Verbier, this is probably the one where you're most likely to pick up some bruises ? it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring a crash helmet!

At The Lodge
  • Gym
Need a little more stamina? Visit the gym and workout on the treadmill, bike, cross-trainer and free weights station and afterwards relax those muscles on the stretching mats. We've even got a plasma screen TV, DVD player and music system to keep you entertained.

  • Indoor pool and Jacuzzis
Relax those aching muscles in the indoor or outdoor Jacuzzis after a day out ? it's heaven! Or just refresh yourself with a dip in our 9m heated indoor pool.

  • Steam room
If you want to relax at the end of the day you can let off some steam in our steam room. It's also a great way to purify your skin.

Golf
You're really spoiled for choice when it comes to golf courses in the area, and most of the courses are within one hour's drive from the lodge.

  • Verbier Golf Course
Situated only a 5 minute drive from The Lodge, this par 69 18-hole course is built at an altitude of 1600m, and each hole has fantastic views over the surrounding mountain ranges. Despite the gradients, the walk around the course is physically very enjoyable.

  • Evian Masters Golf Club
This par 72 18-hole course and casino combination lies at the foot of the Alps on the southern bank of Lake Geneva. The course hosts several professional events during the year and boasts breathtaking views over the nearby peaks. Driving time to the Evian Masters is about one hour.

  • Sion Golf Course
Only 45 minutes away by car, this 18-hole course has a par of 70 and is surrounded by mountain peaks.

  • Severiano Ballesteros Course
Arguably the finest golf course in the Alps! Matching the splendour of the over 4000m peaks facing it, this par 71 18-hole course hosts the annual Omega European Masters, one of the continent's most prestigious tournaments. This challenging course is a one hour drive from The Lodge.

  • Golf de Chamonix Mont Blanc
An outstanding par 72 18-hole course set between Mont Blanc and Les Aguilles Rouges at the bottom of a glacial valley. This course is famous for its cleverly placed water and sand traps! Travel time by car is about one hour along a mountain road with some great photo opportunities.

Summer mountain
  • Mountain Biking
Verbier is home to the legendary Grand Raid Cristalp, stages of the Tour de Suisse and the Swiss downhill championships. With hundreds of kilometres of biking trails ranging in terrain and gradient there is something for every level of mountain biker. If it is the downhill adrenaline rush you are after without the effort of the uphill climb, take advantage of the lift service which operates from the beginning of July to mid-September. A day on the mountain with your bikes doesn't have to be extreme; it can be the ideal activity for all the family to enjoy. We can organise bike hire for you - just ask a member of staff.

  • Hiking
It doesn't get more Swiss than a mountain hike, however, a day's walking in the mountains doesn't have to be steep and difficult. We are lucky to have a stream that runs across the middle of the mountain called ?the Bisse'. Originally used to take fresh water from the glacier at Mont Fort to the village of Levron, it is now maintained for walkers and is totally flat for the majority of the walk. There are several different options to make the walk more substantial, and depending on your start point, it can be either a 45 minute walk, or a 4 hour hike, with everything in between. There are also several mountain restaurants for a refreshing glass of water, or wine! If you would like something a bit more challenging there are several options ranging from a 3 hour hike with a swim in a mountain lake, to a full day's 7 hour difficult hike - again, with all options in between. We can either talk you through the walk on a map, and point you in the right direction, or organise a guide for the day

  • Canyoning
Don a wet suit and take to the water! Brave the icy cold snow-melt water and climb and jump your way down a waterfall and river bed. With an experienced mountain guide with you, you'll use a variety of climbing and scrambling techniques to negotiate a course down and through gorges and waterfalls, including some jumping into pools along the way.

  • Mountain Scooters
A fleet of 'Arapaho' mountain Scooters is kept by Te?le?-Verbier, the lift operators, and you can do a lap from the top of Ruinettes down to Me?dran which is a short walk from The Lodge. The run takes 20 minutes on average.

  • Paragliding
Why not take to the sky and see the spectacular sites of Verbier from the air? Take a tandem flight where you can sit back and enjoy the experience, or take a course and go solo. If you would like to book a flight please let the team know and we will arrange this for you.

  • Rock Climbing
There are many rock-climbing areas in the Bagnes Valley, suitable for beginners and advanced climbers. These include Pierre Avoi, La Barme, Madzeria (near Mauvoisin), Sembrancher and La Fouly. The staff at The Lodge will be more than happy to arrange climbing excursions for you.

  • Yoga
Where better to relax, and heal than the fresh mountain air? There are several mountain top locations for yoga practice and classes can be held outdoors or in The Lodge. A great combination is a gentle hike with a session of yoga up on the mountain.
