Planes

Most people fly to Great Barrier Reef Airport on nearby Hamilton Island (www.hamiltonisland.com.au/airport), which receives domestic flights from Australia's major cities. Transfers are charged (AU$195 a person, for a one-way trip until 31 March 2016; AU$210 a person from 1 April 2016-31 March 2017) and are generally made by launch. Guests can also choose to fly in to Whitsunday Coast Airport (www.whitsundaycoastairport.com.au) at Proserpine, where they board a transfer launch service (for an additional charge) from Abell Point Marina. Please note, flight details must be sent to the hotel two weeks before you arrive. Without this information, your booking isn't confirmed, and you may have to pay extra for transfers.

Other

For those who want to arrive in style, it's possible to book seaplane and helicopter transfers from either Great Barrier Reef or Whitsunday Coast Airports.

Activities

Are you a lay-back-and-do-nothing sort, or more of an everything-all-the-time type? The resort's sumptuous spa and two kilometres of white-sand private beach should keep you busy doing not much for much of your stay; if you're intent on doing more, take on a personal trainer or some bootcamp or yoga classes at the shiny new fitness centre.

And, staying on Hayman Island means you've bagged a front row seat to the Great Barrier Reef, which stretches a mighty 3,000 metres along Queensland's coastline. Divers can marvel at the out-of-this-world tropical marine life, and if you're not the type to dive straight in, you could be jetting off on a seaplane tour or embarking on a fishing adventure, both of which the hotel will organise for you. And, there's free catamaran sailing, windsurfing and paddle skiing, so there's no excuse to stay dry.

Of course, in this remarkable corner of the world there are beauteous beaches galore, and thanks to the hotel's hiking groups, guests can trek the pretty trails along to some of the most picturesque sandy shores. Less enthusiastic trekkers, do not fret ? Blue Pearl Bay is only a short hike away, and is arguably the most beautiful spot on the island.
