Overview
The Cosy's Cottage is one of the world's most
exclusive hideaways, offering the best of both worlds, total
independence and privacy as well as all of Huka Lodge's amenities.
The
Cosy's Cottage at Huka Lodge sits on an elevated and sunny promontory
above the spectacular Waikato River, within the grounds of Huka Lodge.
Virtually completely hidden from view, this luxurious hideaway enjoys stunning views downstream to the mighty Huka Falls.
Accommodation
The picturesque wooden cottage was originally built in 1937, for
Americans Commander and Mrs. Fitzhugh Green of Long Island, on land
leased from Alan Pye. The colour palette is deliberately muted with
elegant use of soft cream hues for the walls and bleached Oak wooden
parquet floors throughout. This all contributes to an ambience of calm
restful relaxation within the cottage.
Four superbly decorated spacious guest suites are anchored by a central
living room, dining area, kitchen and den. The suites all have
super-king size beds, en suite, comfortable chairs for lounging and the
romance of their own fireplace.
Two of the guest suites face the
river while the other two enjoy a beautiful private courtyard garden
aspect. These gardens also feature one of the magnificent outdoor
fireplaces that can be found tucked away within the environs of Huka
Lodge.
The Den has a
workstation, computer, plasma screen television and DVD player,
extremely comfortable leather chairs and a cozy fireplace complete the
picture. A laundry service is also available with the Cottage.
A
large outdoor deck extends in a continuous line from the living room
until it meets the amazing cantilevered infinity pool. The grounds
within the Owner's Cottage also feature a heated spa pool, outdoor
furniture suitable for dining, sunbathing, reading or a quiet nap.
The
Cottage displays work by some of New Zealand's foremost artists : Max
Gimblet, Mervyn Taylor, Don Binney, Paul Dibble and Dick Frizell to name
a few. The Owner's Cottage at Huka Lodge is furbished generously with
characterful pieces chosen for their comfort, beauty and history like
the wonderful 1920s French Oak chairs in the living room.

The Owner's
Cottage offers a high level of privacy and comfort and is ideal for a
private party of guests or a family. All Huka Lodge facilities are
available should guests choose to enjoy them. A personal chef and butler
service are available, should they be required. The cottage features
four suites with en suite bathrooms. It is beautifully appointed, with
every comfort : rustic antique furniture, log fire, living and dining
room, kitchen and den. Separate accommodation is also available for
accompanying staff.

The bathrooms are beautifully appointed with twin basins, deep baths,
separate showers and heated towel rails. The cathedral-style ceilings
bathe the rooms in a high level of natural light. The floors are made
from wood and all enjoy under-floor heating. Large and generous
walk-through dressing rooms are adjacent to all of the bathrooms.
Living & Dining Areas
The Living Room is the centre of the cottage with a
magnificent stone fireplace for blazing log fires, high ceilings, cream
suede
couches, antique leather club chairs, everything you need to absolutely
relax.
A well-equipped kitchen is set up for a personal chef '
guests may choose to stay in or to wander over to the main Lodge and
dine there. Guests at the Owner's Cottage have use of all Huka Lodge
facilities and services as a matter of course

- Huka Lodge is on the banks of the Waikato River, upstream from the mighty Huka Falls and close to Lake Taupo.
- From Auckland, Huka Lodge is an easy and scenic 3 - 3½ hour drive, or a 45-minute scheduled domestic flight direct to Taupo Airport.
- From Rotorua, Huka Lodge is a one-hour drive.
- Located within the central plateau of New Zealand's North Island means guests can easily include a visit Huka Lodge on journeys of both a northerly and a southerly direction.

Villa's
manager will have a wealth of information about nearby places of
interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings required.
There is an all-weather tennis court as well as potential to play pètanque and croquet within the grounds.

- Golfers have a choice of many courses ? a favourite being Wairakei International Golf Course just five-minutes away. There is also a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course nearby at Kinloch, this is a 20-minute car journey each way, from Huka Lodge.
- Lake Taupo is 10-minutes by car from Huka Lodge and provides great opportunity for aquatic adventure ? sailing, swimming, para-gliding, water skiing and kayaking. Fishing for the famous rainbow and brown trout, renowned for their size and fighting spirit is also very popular.

Four-wheel drive farm experience
Take an exciting Sportrax Safari (Suzuki LTZ 2WD 250cc quad) ride through farmland and scenic native bush on a farm 20-minutes from Taupo. There are a variety of trips ranging from 1-3 hours, catering for both young and old with full training given.
Scenic helicopter flights and tours

An exciting 4x4 bike ride through lush farmland and native trees on a private property 20 minutes north of Taupo. A variety of trips available, ranging from 1-3 hours.

Half of full day Atamai Cultural Experience is exclusive to Huka Lodge guests and provides a totally authentic, contemporary cultural exchange.
Local attractions for the young and young at heart
In the Taupo area there are many activities to be enjoyed in addition to those available through the Lodge. For families and groups we recommend Lilliput Farm, Taupo Events Centre rock climbing wall, Volcanic Activity Centre, Honey Hive and Meadery, Mini Golf & Hole in One on the lake front, the Prawn Farm, Puzzle World and Maze, Tongariro National Trout Centre, L'arte Mosaic Cafe and Sculpture Garden, and Taupo Hot Springs.

- Every night a five-course gourmet dinner is presented, there is a new menu created everyday by the Huka Lodge Executive Chef. After dinner, petits-fours and cheeses are also provided.

Additional Notes
Dining and cuisine
- Guests gather in the main Lodge building every evening for one hour, to enjoy pre-dinner drinks.
- From there they disperse to dine communally in Huka Lodge tradition or to one of the Lodge's many unique and deliberately romantic private dining venues. These offer both indoor and outdoor opportunity for seclusion and ambience.
- Every day our Executive Chef, Paul Froggatt and his team present a five-course dinner showcasing the very best seasonal ingredients. Service is both seamless and solicitous.
- The Owner's Cottage and the Alan Pye Cottage both have a personal chef available, if required.
British-born chef Paul Froggatt initially trained in the UK and in France where his career highlights included working at Gidleigh Park Hotel (Two Michelin-Star), Bernard Loiseau en Bourgogne (Three Michelin-Star) and Château de Courcelles (One Michelin-Star).
Paul followed this by stints at two of Singapore's popular leading European restaurants San Marco and Saint Pierre. Paul, bilingual in French and English, accredits this experience for culminating in his desire to relocate his family, including his Singapore-born wife and two small children, to work at New Zealand's iconic Huka Lodge.
"As a chef, I've always had two ambitions for my career. The first was to cook to the highest level of Michelin Stars and I've now done this at three of Europe's great restaurants."

The Trophy Room
This room was designed for many configurations so can accommodate a large group of up
to 20 diners or a table for 2 in front of the fire. Two terraces provide opportunity for an outdoor table for 2-4, also with river views downstream towards the Huka Falls.
Jetty Pavilion
On the bank of the deep turquoise- green waters of the Waikato River, the pavilion can seat 2-6 guests. The clever use of a mirror ensures that whatever side of the table you sit on, you can enjoy the river.
Front Terrace
On a stone terrace looking to the river, outdoor dining is available for 2 couples at 2 separate tables ? divine in summer.

A table for two under the stars, within 17-acres of manicured grounds is always possible.
River Terrace
With its own outdoor fireplace this intimate areacan cater for 2-4 guests in comfort and style. Close to the Main Lodge building with dramatic views of the river and gardens.
Outdoor fireplace
The very first outdoor fireplace at Huka Lodge, now one of many, this area is very sheltered and can be used for semi-outdoor dining over more than just the summer months. Can seat 2-8 guests, located just off the Main Lodge Room.
The Orchard
On top of the wine cellar is a small orchard of heirloom fruit trees ? plums, apples, figs, quince etc and two outdoor fireplaces, supplemented by chiminea with two tables that can seat 2-6.
Green Room
An outdoor ?room? with three sides completely enclosed by clipped green ?walls? comprised of evergreen hedging. Views to theriver and chiminea ? perfect for 2-6 diners. Not illustrated.
Cosy Cottage
