In December 2017 Sanctuary Retreats launched the exclusive new Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp in Tanzania.
This
extraordinary new escape, based in three set locations across the
Serengeti, invites guests to intimately experience the movement of a
million-plus wildebeest and zebra as they follow the fresh grasses
across the Serengeti plains during the annual migration cycle
Accommodation
An
elegant contemporary take on the classic campaign look, Sanctuary
Kichakani Serengeti Camp offers accommodation under canvas with 10 new
five-star tents, all of which have been styled with distinction. Each
tent has a wooden deck perfect for pausing for a just-brewed cup of
Tanzania's finest coffee, and ensuite bathrooms feature authentic bucket
showers.
A personal tent attendant is available around the
clock to fill each bucket shower to the perfect temperature. Thanks to
the on-the-go nature of the whole sand-coloured canvas-constructed camp,
there is little impact on the environment, casting a lighter ecological
shadow.
In addition to the new sophisticated private tents, the
camp also features a grand central canopied area where the main tent
flows into lounges and dining wings. Promising awe-inspiring panoramas,
the tents can be open on the sides to reveal the soul-stirring
landscape. Savour international flavours alongside kachumbari
(traditional Tanzanian salsa), coconut beans, paprika, cinnamon, chilli
from nearby Zanzibar, conjured up by the Chef and his team. Evenings can
be spent gathered by the traditional fire pit and exchanging stories
under starry skies and listening to tales of wildlife encounters and
historical derring-do from the passionate guides.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
The Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp offers ten five star tents under
canvas each of which has been styled with absolute distinction.
Each of the luxury tents provides a wooden viewing deck and en-suite
bathrooms featuring authentic bucket showers. A personal tent butler is
available day and night to fill each bucket shower for guests to use

Location
Sanctuary Kichakani
Serengeti Camp is a moveable camp and will be located in three set
locations in the Serengeti throughout the year based on the natural
migration path. The camp will be located in Southern Serengeti (2
December 2017 - 31 March 2018), Central Serengeti (1 June 2018 - 15 July
2018), and Northern Serengeti (29 July 2018 - 15 November 2018).
Flying
time from Arusha is approximately one hour and 30 minutes to the
airstrips. Depending on the location of the camp, different airstrips
will be used which can be accessed on a daily basis.
Transfer times
The airstrips are:
- Southern Serengeti from 2 December 2017 - 31 March 2018 - Serengeti South Airstrip (SGS).
- Central Serengeti from 1 June 2018 - 15 July 2018 - Seronera Airstrip (SEU)
- Northern Serengeti from 29 July 2018 - 15 November 2018 - Lamai Airstrip
- Arusha to Seronera airstrip - 1 hour
- Arusha to Lamai airstrip - 1 hour and 30 minutes
- Arusha to Serengeti South airstrip - 1 hour and 30 minutes
- Seronera airstrip to Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp - 35 minutes
- Lamai airstrip to Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp - 1 hour and 30 minutes
- Serengeti South Airstrip to Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp - 10-15 minutes
- Access by road is also possible and the camp is approximately three hours from the Ngorongoro Crater and seven hours from Arusha. For light aircraft, luggage is limited to 15kg in one soft bag.

Kichakani Serengeti Camp?s three set locations throughout the year are
based on the natural migration path offering wildlife viewing from open
plains, sweeping grasslands and rocky kopjes. The stars of this seasonal
path are wildebeest, zebra, Thomson?s gazelles, and the predators that
this migratory journey attracts. The Serengeti is known for having the
Big Five; cheetahs are a highlight, along with wild dog, giraffe,
waterbuck and impala.
Sundowners
Sundowners are a must
on any safari, and the perfect way to end the day and take some time to
enjoy the magnificent sunsets of Africa. Enjoy a refreshing drink or a
signature cocktail and scrumptious cocktail snacks as you celebrate the
end of the day; all while being surrounded by thousands of wildebeest
and zebras.
