Overview
Villa Kakatua (which means cockatoo) is a hidden gem
for families and friends seeking a relaxed and comfortable holiday at an
affordable price. Located right next door to three-bedroom Villa
Kedidi, this four-bedroom villa is the epitome of simple luxury.
Beautifully
designed in classic Balinese style the villa features timber pillars
and high serapwood ceilings, garden bathrooms, traditional artefacts, a
free-form swimming pool and lush tropical surrounds, home to a myriad of
exotic plants and birdlife (you may even see a cockatoo.)
Just
100 metres from Canggu Beach and bordering rice fields and cow pastures,
it is the ultimate getaway for those wishing to escape the frantic pace
and traffic of nearby Seminyak. Catch a wave, build a sandcastle or be
mesmerised by the setting sun - you will soon feel the peace and
tranquillity the island is famous for.
Perfect for families, the
villa has everything you need from high chairs, baby cots and
toddler-safe cutlery to pool fencing and swimming aids. The warm and
hospitable staff are excellent with children and the in-house chefs are
well-equipped to cater for the fussiest of eaters. And knowing that the
family is well cared for gives adults more time to relax. Chill out in
the poolside balé, pamper yourself with a spa treatment or enjoy a
sunset cocktail at the five-star Hotel Tugu next door - the list is
endless. For those who wish to venture further afield, car and driver
provided at special price US$ 25/ 8 hours excluding petrol.
Truly
your home-away-from-home, Villa Kakatua will embrace you with its
character and charm. It's no surprise that guests are eager to return
year after year.
Accommodation
A private path bordered by
plants and limestone carvings leads to Villa Kakatua's traditional
Balinese doors. Behind these doors guests are greeted by an aling-aling
wall (a short partition wall which, according to traditional belief,
protects the villa from bad spirits), a fishpond and a bubbling water
feature.
The main two-storey pavilion houses the master suite,
one guest bedroom, the living area and the kitchen. Adjacent to this is
the dining balé, and to the far side of that the other two guest
bedrooms lie side by side below a thatched roof.
Each room faces
the lagoon-style pool and lush gardens enabling guests to enjoy the
peace and tranquillity from every angle, while those wishing to embrace
the spiritual side of Bali can observe daily offerings being made to the
gods at the villa's very own garden temple.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
All
four of Villa Kakatua's air-conditioned bedrooms are similar in design
with polished cream terrazzo floors, ceiling fans, beautifully carved
wooden beds draped with mosquito nets and antique batik throws.
Tastefully decorated with Javanese antiques and traditional paintings
and portraits, the rooms are very homely and comfortable. iPod docks in
all bedrooms and TV/DVD players (in all but bedroom four) add a modern
touch, while the lovely garden bathrooms, dotted with bluestone pebbles
and with open-air showers, inject tropical style.
The ground
floor master suite (with the additional luxury of a tub in its bathroom)
lies immediately off the main living area, with glass sliding doors
opening onto the pool. The upstairs guest bedroom has great views over
the gardens and is accessed by a wooden staircase from the living room.
Bedrooms
three and four are tucked away in their own pavilion with a shared
veranda for cheeky daytime naps on the comfortable bright red daybeds.
One of these rooms features a giant four-poster bed large enough to
sleep four children!
Living & Dining Areas
Overlooking
the pool, Villa Kakatua's open-sided living area is a great place to
unwind or watch a movie under the cooling breeze of the ceiling fans.
Decorated with an array of Indonesian artefacts and antiques this room
evokes vivid images of ?old' Bali. Two comfortable red sofas, topped
with bright yellow and blue cushions face a carved wooden coffee table
at one side of the pavilion, while a table and chairs at the other
provides enough seating for four to enjoy breakfast or an afternoon
snack ? or perhaps a board game.
Two beautifully carved Balinese
dancers pose on either side of the kitchen doors at the rear of the
living room. Recently renovated (2011), the modern kitchen comes with
stainless steel appliances and all essential childrens equipment.
Standing
close to the living pavilion and fringed by lush vegetation, the
thatched dining balé with its solid wood table and two large bench seats
provides the perfect setting for a casual dining experience.
Outdoor living
At
the heart of Villa Kakatua lies the lagoon-style salt-water swimming
pool surrounded by manicured lawns and lushly landscaped gardens. Every
tropical plant you can think of is on display here, from flowering
frangipanis to impressive fan palms and clinging stag-horn ferns.
The
delightful poolside balé is the ideal place to soak up the atmosphere
or indulge in a massage or spa treatment. If a suntan is your goal, then
stretch out on one of the poolside loungers, order an ice-cold drink,
relax and enjoy.

Activities
Your
villa manager, Wid, will have a wealth of information about nearby
places of interest and will help arrange transport and make any bookings
required. Do also ask the staff about the local area. Invariably many
of them will live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight
into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.
In the meantime, here's a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within reach of Villa Kakatua.
- A string of naturally beautiful beaches, some renowned for their surf, are right on the villa's doorstep. Walk straight down to Canggu Beach or take a leisurely stroll to the legendary surfing haunt, Echo Beach. Whichever beach you choose, all are in prime position for fabulous sunsets.
- Immediately next door is the 5-star Hotel Tugu Bali. Bali's first museum-hotel is studded with priceless Indonesian artworks and antiques, while its award-winning spa offers age-old Eastern therapies. You can even order room service to the villa!
- If you've always wanted to gallop along a beach or ride through villages bordered by rice fields, now's your chance. Bali Horse Adventure, located en route to Echo Beach, can arrange horse riding tours, as well as children's riding lessons and romantic horse-drawn carriage outings.
- Make the de rigueur pilgrimage to sacred Pura Tanah Lot, one of Bali's biggest tourist magnets. Perched high on a craggy wave-lashed rock, this ancient sea temple is best savoured at sunset, however there are less crowds early morning; make sure you receive a blessing from the Hindu Priests.
- Alternatively, view Tanah Lot from the 12th hole of Nirwana Bali Golf Course. Bordered by the Indian Ocean and rice fields just down from the sea temple, no wonder this championship-standard course designed by golf legend, Greg Norman is frequently voted Asia's number one.
- Fashionistas, trendies and shop-a-holics should hotfoot it down to Bali's most cosmopolitan enclave, Seminyak. Here, you can indulge for hours in the glut of global-inspired gourmet restaurants, stylish boutiques and hipper-than-thou bars ? including much hyped Ku Dé Ta, on Seminyak beachfront.
- For a day of culture and dramatic landscapes, drive directly north from the villa to the mountain town of Bedugul. From here, explore three volcanic lakes, including Bratan, with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu ? one of Bali's most important temples.
- Covering 3.8 hectares of tropical parkland in Kuta, Waterbom Bali has 16 water slides (including The Climax with its 360 degree loop) to entertain the young and the young at heart. A great family day out, but go early to beat the crowds.
- There are several surf schools in Bali, mainly based in and around Kuta and Legian, where young and old(er) can learn to surf or brush up on their skills. Ask your villa manager for local recommendations.
- Bali Treetop Adventure Park is near the town of Bedugal in northern central Bali (next to Lake Bratan). Five adventure circuits, with heights ranging from two to 20 metres, challenge all level and ages on suspended bridges, spider nets, tarzan jumps and 12 flying foxes.
- Pulau Dive Charters offers luxury boat charters around the beautiful islands and waters surrounding Bali. They specialise in private fishing, surfing and diving charters and also offer unique personalised day trips to Nusa Lembongan. Perfect for a family day out on the water or with a group of friends.
Services included
Exclusive use of the whole villa and all staff that include a villa manager, skilled chef, housekeepers, gardeners and security, driver and car (seating up to six passengers) is available for consecutive 8 hours at special rates USD 25 per day (excluding petrol), swimming pool with US certified pool safety fence, WiFi, BBQ facilities and all just meters from the beach.
Additional Notes
Families
Villa
holidays are an excellent option for families and Villa Kakatua was one
of the first villas on the island to cater for youngsters.
Don't
worry about packing all that cumbersome extra equipment for your stay
as we can provide you with all the essentials, and more ? from pool
safety fences to baby baths, cots, monitors, high chairs and car seats.
We even offer toddler friendly cutlery, blenders and sterilising
equipment. Anything we don't have we can order in for a small fee.
The
facilities are all yours too of course, along with the freedom to use
them whenever you want: starlit swims, midnight movies or morning
massages ? it's up to you. Knowing that the kids can run around happily,
independently and safely, without you having to worry about other
guests, is a real plus ? and one that means parents are certain to have a
more relaxed holiday too. The team of friendly staff will make children
feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand
gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring
beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra
cost).
Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals
for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for
you ? just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the
villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest. Burgers in
the balé for lunch? Pancakes by the pool for breakfast? No problem. The
chefs can customise all meals to suit children's taste buds.
And
when the excitement of exploring the villa starts to wear off, check out
our Things to do page; there's plenty in the area to keep all the
family amused throughout the holiday.
Dining
Take
advantage of the three experienced chefs who are at your service to
prepare delicious homestyle meals. The villa offers a suggestion menu
featuring Asian and international dishes to cater to all tastes with an
excellent selection of vegetarian and children's options.
Be sure
to sample some of the local Balinese delicacies such as sate ayam
(chicken satay) or gado-gado (vegetables with peanut sauce). With the
abundance of seafood on your doorstep, ask one of the chefs to cook up
the catch of the day on the hot-stone barbecue.
If guests have
specific requests the in-house chefs are more than happy to tailor meals
accordingly and accommodate any special dietary requirements. To make
the most of the kitchen and give staff time to shop, it is a good idea
to plan meals the evening before. Guests will be invoiced for provisions
at cost, plus 20% service charge.
Spa
Feel like a
body scrub or massage? Just ask our staff to bring the spa to you! We
can recommend deluxe treatments carried out in the privacy of your room
or the elevated poolside pavilion by fully trained therapists from a
reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here's a sample of
what's on the menu:
Balinese massage
Release built up
tension with a traditional Balinese massage. Using a combination of
gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the
flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body, you will feel totally
relaxed in no time.
Foot reflexology
Foot reflexology
is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes
in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. Through
application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and
circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.
Body scrub
A
full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft
and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as
salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any
impurities and make your skin glow.
Manicure/pedicure
Our
hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention
they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes
with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.
