Overview

Infused with 1960s French style, Amansara is a gateway to the monumental remnants of the Khmer Empire, saturated with history and legend.
Derived from the Sanskrit word for peace, aman, and the ancient Hindu name of a heavenly nymph, Apsara, Amansara is located in Siem Reap.

Encircled by forests and rice paddies, Angkor's ruins are the last vestiges of the Khmer Empire. Explore more than 1,000 temples from Amansara's location near the archaeological park, including Angkor Wat, Bayon and Banteay Srei.

Location

Once the guest villa of King Norodom Sihanouk, Amansara is now a 24-suite retreat situated just 10 minutes from the entrance to Angkor.
Amansara's Khmer Village House is situated within the Angkor Archaeological Park, overlooking the 10th-century reservoir of Srah Srang.

Angkor, as seen through the eyes of Amansara, provides guests with the unique opportunity to learn and understand the history and value of Khmer civilization. Angkor Wat is the largest and most spectacular of the Angkorian monuments, built in the early 12th century. It has become a symbol of Cambodia and an immense source of national pride. The impressive bas-reliefs on the lower levels should not be missed.

Between the city and Angkor Archaeological Park, Amansara is a short drive from Siem Reap International Airport (REP).

The dry season extends from November until May during which time temperatures range from 20°C to 32°C. The southwest monsoon prevails from June till October with stronger breezes and higher humidity. Rainfall is usually limited to the afternoons and is sporadic.

Light clothing is appropriate with a sweater or jacket in the evenings. Sports shoes are suitable for light touring, and hiking boots are recommended for treks. Legs, shoulders and upper arms need to be covered when visiting places of worship.

Enjoy brunch, lunch or sunset cocktails aboard Amansara's lake boat and discover the varied plant, fish and bird life that help make this vast inland lake one of Cambodia's most valuable ecosystems.

  • Once coveres by the ancient city of Angkor, the siem reap countryside is now crisscrossed by sandy tracks best explored on mountain bike.
Cycle through rice fields dotted with sugar palms and stilted wooden Khmer houses surrounded by fruit trees and overlooked by the Phnom Kulen hills in the distance.

  • Receive a water blessing to cleanse your spirit at wat Athvea, on the outskirts of Siem reap.
A Buddhist monk performs the purifying ritual at the 12th-century temple - a calming way to begin or end your stay at Amansara.

  • Early morning and late afternoon walks explore the temples surrounding Angkor wat, incluing Ta Prohm, Preah Khan and Bayon.
This vast landscape demonstrates the elaborate interconnection between complex ritual architecture and pragmatic water management engineering behind Angkor's design.

Delve deeper into the region's heritage by visiting lost jungle temples by helicopter, with landings at Banteay Chmar, Koh Ker, and Beng Mealea.

Commencing with a full-body scrub using a blend of Khmer herbs that exfoliate, stimulate and hydrate, aspara is a therapeutic journey designed for women.

Deepen your awareness as you discover the energies of nature with a sunrise yoga session outdoors.

After exploring the temples, revitalise with a crystal salt soak and foot scrub before a relaxing leg massage.
Or find peace with one of the spa's holistic therapies, which range from Reiki to energy rebalancing, or a massage with a blind therapist at Amansara's village house.

Events
From birthday festivities to anniversary dinners, Amansara's unique atmosphere is enhanced by local dancers or a blessing from a Buddhist monk.
